The Canadian County 4-H Volunteer Leaders Council’s annual fundraising gala, Soupapalooza, is set for Tuesday, Oct. 14 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Canadian County Expo. 

Each year, Canadian County 4-H Clubs, sponsors and local businesses donate live and silent auction items to raise nearly $10,000 to support Canadian County 4-H’ers.

These funds provide Canadian County 4-H the opportunity to send 4-H’ers to district and state competitions, assist with leadership trip costs and expand countywide leadership and citizenship programs.

The Pride of El Reno recently participated in the Elgin Southwest Showdown, placing fourth in 5A Red and Top 12 in Prelims to advance to the final round.

In the final round the band placed 10th out of 26 bands.

El Reno High School September Students of the Month are McKenzie Smith, Aaron Seewald, Serenity Billings, Iris Morand de Jouvencel, Jacob Oakes, Olive French, Kristian Brock and Case Wilkowske.

Riverside August Citizens of the Month are Rosario Ramos, Nahla Cabrera, Natalie Woolley, John Hicks, Macen Moore, Aspyn Moore, Leyla Johnson, Evie Alexander, Rafe Rowland and Kyler Ford.

Also, Syrus Jackson, Leta Dunford, Rilynn Richmond, Robert Woods, Sophia Lemus, Legend Hatton, Hazel Blakely, Ezekiel Benson and Huxley Macias.

Anna Rinehart recently hosted the October meeting of Chapter AE of P.E.O., with Karen Pappas as co-hostess.

Special guest was Lyndsay Bayne, public information and marketing manager for the City of El Reno. She is also in charge of The Filling Station Visitors Center.

The Damrosch Music Club will present its monthly music program composed of choral and ensemble pieces on Wednesday, Oct. 8 beginning at 10 a.m. at Ellison Avenue United Methodist Church, 600 S. Ellison Avenue.

A small reception will follow the program.

Deacon Lloyd Menz, right, accepts a gift from Father Lance Warren and Nikki Craven honoring him for 19 years of ministry serving the Catholic parishes of St. Joseph’s in Union City and Sacred Heart in El Reno.

Menz, a native of Union City, is retiring from the ministry.

The parishes honored him last week with a dinner at the St. Joseph Parish Hall.

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church, with Carol Stine calling the meeting to order.

Donna Wehmuller read a devotional titled "Paying Attention.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meeting, while Patricia Morrison gave the treasury report. 

Stine was birthday honoree.

Appreciation was expressed to Ann Niemann, Wehmuller and Stine for all their planning and work they did on the club displays at the Canadian County Fair.

Chapter AE, Philanthropic Educational Organization’s annual spaghetti supper was held recently in the home of Robin White-Mahone, with Lindsey Vise serving as co-hostess.

Other members attending were Christy Eichholz, Margaret Price, Darla Reuter, Cynthia Jensen, Karen Rushing, Janan Fletcher, Anna Rinehart and Becky Reuter.

Vise read last month’s minutes. Fletcher read a thank you note from Rylan Fleenor, recipient of the Marie Lyons Scholarship at Redlands.

New member books were handed out.

Members of the Underwood Club of Oklahoma Home and Community Education met recently in the home of Vicki Duncan. Others attending were Ann Ricketts and Janan Fletcher.

Duncan read a devotion from Prayers of Grace. Fletcher gave the treasurer’s report and noted yearly dues will be collected next month.

Discussion was held from the lesson on Cast Iron Basics. 

It was noted the Underwood Club’s booth received third place in the points contest.
