Eleven youth ages 10 and up recently attended a Kids in the Kitchen class in El Reno.

Participants received hands-on cooking experience making french toast, yeast bread in a bag, grape jelly, strawberry jam, butter and fruit pizza.

The kids decorated fabric aprons and received goody bags filled with a recipe booklet, a cutting board, an Is It Done Yet? magnet and other items.

Some items were donated by the Canadian County Health Department and USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. 

Seventy-nine of the 140 descendants of Elmo and Agnes Finnigan gathered for their annual reunion recently at Roman Nose State Park. 

Attending were their children, Tim and Danella Finnigan, Pat and Cheryl Finnigan, Willie and Kathleen Finnigan Baeriswyl, Peggy Finnigan Wahweah, Terry and Lorie Finnigan and Jimmy and Sheila Finnigan Cowan.

Master Gardener training classes start this fall, with many of the lessons taught by Extension specialists from OSU-Stillwater in the field of horticulture. Topics range from entomology to water conservation. Christy Eichholz, president of Chapter AE of International Philanthropic Education Organization, hosted the group’s July meeting at a local coffee shop.

Karen Pappas served as co-hostess.

Other members attending were Robin White-Mahone, Becky Reuter, Margaret Price, Anna Rinehart, Janan Fletcher and Lindsey Vise.

 Vise read minutes from the June meeting, with Pappas giving the treasurer’s report.

The Underwood Club of Oklahoma Home and Community Education met for its July meeting in the home of Vicki Duncan, with Natalia Valenzuela serving as hostess. Other members present were Bernita Davis, Janan Fletcher, Ann Ricketts and Renee’ Schweitzer.

Ricketts opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Davis read minutes from the previous meeting, while Fletcher gave the treasurer’s report.

Valenzuela read a selection from Daily Devotionals. 

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church, with Carol Stine calling the meeting to order.

Donna Wehmuller read a devotional titled “Source of Joy.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meeting and gave the treasurer’s report.

Wehmuller offered the lesson on “Flowers Here and Forever.” She made each member a resin floral magnet.

The group sent donations to the 4-H Scholarship Fund and the 4-H annual banquet.

A Quilt Block Challenge will be featured at the Canadian County Fair set for Aug. 20-23 at the Canadian County Expo & Event Center, 3001 Jensen Road East.

The contest is sponsored by Canadian County Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) and the winners will be determined by viewers choice voting.

All entrants must use the designated fabric provided by OHCE for part of the quilt block. Exhibitors may add any other 100 percent cotton fabrics to complete the block.

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meeting, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report.

Morrison gave the leader lesson on “Using Ritz Crackers.”

Each member received a copy of a cookbook titled Puttin’ on the Ritz. Morrison brought snacks, entrees and desserts from the cookbook for everyone to enjoy.

Members of the Underwood Club of Oklahoma Home and Community Education met for their June meeting in the home of Janan Fletcher.

Others attending were Michele Rivers, Renee’ Schweitzer, Ann Ricketts, Bernita Davis and Vicki Duncan.

Ricketts led the flag salute. Fletcher offered the devotional thought from Matthew 6:19-24 and gave the treasurer’s report.

Members will give a donation to the 4-H for roundup and awards.

Duncan conducted roll call with the question, “What’s your favorite thing to put on a cracker?”
