Postseason honors roll in for El Reno players

Body

While the win-loss record may not have reflected the abilities of the players making up El Reno High School’s softball roster, the coaches who faced the Indians knew it.

That knowledge and respect was reflected in voting for two postseason award lists which netted El Reno a dozen selections and a possibility for three All-State laurels.

That ended in a must-win game for El Reno High School’s football team.

The junior quarterback became the fifth runner this year to eclipse the century mark in a single game with 107 yards and two touchdowns as the Indians climbed back into the playoff picture with a 46-18 victory over John Marshall.

Michalicka proud of team’s ’24 growth

Body

While admitting there are areas of growth still needed from the top chair down, El Reno High School head softball coach Bri Michalicka could not be prouder of her team’s effort in her first season at the helm.

“This season was a trial run and I was proud of the girls. There were a lot of positive moments but our record did not reflect our potential as a team and program,” said Michalicka.

El Reno went 15-15 overall and made the regional championship round of the playoffs before being eliminated by Guthrie. The Indians were fourth in the District 5A-2 standings.

El Reno comeback stymied by Lawton

LAWTON – Two failed fourth-down conversion attempts and an interception kept El Reno High School’s football team out of the end zone and the win column in last week’s 33-20 loss to Lawton.

In the first meeting between the schools since 1961, the Wolverines, leading by a touchdown, fended off two fourth-down attempts by EHS before adding a late touchdown to secure the 13-point win.

Lawton (4-3) remains tied with Guthrie and Carl Albert for the District 5A-2 lead at 4-0. Meanwhile, El Reno slipped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the district standings with three games to play.
