El Reno High School’s boys basketball team, an annual fixture in the Harrah Panthers Classic since 2015, has added another piece of golden hardware to its trophy case from the early-season tourney.

The Indians defeated Class 4A’s fifth-ranked Bishop McGuinness 70-44 in the title game to win their second straight HPC championship. Coupled with wins over Star Spencer (93-46) and John Marshall (75-68), El Reno moved to 4-0 on the season.

A string of seven straight victories, five by falls, through the middle weights allowed El Reno High School’s wrestling team to rally past Midwest City for its first dual win of the 2024-25 season.

El Reno, ranked 14th in the Class 5A Dual Rankings, improved to 1-1 with a 46-29 tally over the Bombers. It was the Indians third straight win over Midwest City.

The win got off to a fast start as Mason Hoffman (106) posted a 12-1 major decision over J.J. Reeves.

Midwest City rallied for an 18-4 lead behind two El Reno forfeits and a loss by EHS’ Hollis Gore (120) by fall.

For the second time in three days, P.J. Hall won a duel for El Reno High School’s girls wrestling team without ever breaking a sweat on the mat.

The senior (235) picked up a forfeit win to secure a 38-30 victory over Perry as the 10th-ranked Indians (6A) moved to 2-0 on the season.

Perry, ranked 11th in Class 5A, trailed the entire match but closed the gap to 32-30 with Avery Tetik’s 4:47 fall over El Reno's Emma Resendiz (190) in the next to last weight class.

It took three missed shots and nearly two minutes to brush away the offseason rust but El Reno High School’s girls basketball team opened up the defense of its Class 5A title with a 56-32 win over Guymon.

El Reno has now won 29 games in a row dating back to last season, 24 of those in the regular season.

The 24-point victory over the Tigers moved the Indians to 1-0 in the District 5A-1 standings.

El Reno High School’s boys basketball team plowed its way into the win column last week in its season-opening matchup with Guymon logging not one, two or even three dunks.

Instead, the Indians recorded 13 slam dunks en route to a 72-35 victory over the Tigers.

The 37-point win moved El Reno to 1-0 in the early District 5A-1 standings, which will be used for playoff seeding.

A pair of early forfeits set El Reno High School’s girls wrestling team, ranked 10th in Class 6A, on the right path in its season-opening 34-28 win over Piedmont.

It was the first official girls duel between the two Canadian County rivals, which had wrestled only individual and exhibition matches in previous seasons.

El Reno never trailed as Reny Whitney (100) and Nylley Miller (105) got forfeits, followed by Brooklynn Huggins (110) with a 10-0 shutout of Piedmont’s Carissa Martin.

Sparked by a 34-0 run in the first period, Union City High School’s boys basketball team cruised to its second win of the year with a 77-19 decision over Gracemont.

The season-high scoring left the Tigers with a 2-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the Washita Valley Conference standings.

Union City got 11 points from Matthew Mendoza and 10 from Aiden Williams in the first period as the Tigers led 34-0. Union City was up 46-4 at halftime and 58-12 after three periods before outscoring the Lions 19-7 in the fourth.

Morgan Brothers scored 13 of her game-high 18 points in the second period as Union City High School’s girls basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 60-20 win over Gracemont.

The Tigers dropped out of the Class A state rankings with the skid but improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Washita Valley Conference standings with the 40-point decision over the Lions.

Brothers was one of three players in double digits as Reyna Mendoza followed with 12 points and Kamryn Cook with 11. Keely Riley closed with nine points, while Lilly Russell added four points.
