Redlands jumps back into win column 106-55

After having a three-game win streak snapped with a road loss, Redlands Community College men’s basketball team jumped back into the win column with a 106-55 score over On-Point Academy.

The victory over the cross-town rival moved the Cougars to 6-2 on the season following a 94-87 loss to Hesston College.

Camren Hunt scored 20 points in the win over On-Point and booked 26 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for the two-game set. Henry Sanchez added a line of 22 points, 12 boards and five steals.

Union City defense sparks win, Calumet, Okarche suffer losses

UNION CITY – A quick burst of points late in the second period, sparked by its defense, allowed Union City High School’s girls basketball team to stay undefeated on the young season.

The Tigers moved to 3-0 on the year with a 49-22 victory over Binger-Oney.

The win pushed Union City to 2-0 in the Washita Valley Conference standings.

Both teams struggled to score early as Binger-Oney led 5-2 before Union City got two free throws by Breanna Goad and a Kamryn Cook basket to lead 6-5. The Bobcats got a late basket to take a 7-6 lead into the second period.

UNION CITY – For the second straight game, Union City High School’s boys basketball team has struggled with ball security, committing 36 turnovers in an 81-51 setback to Binger-Oney.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Washita Valley Conference standings.

Union City trailed by only a point, 11-10, on a free throw by Landon Barton in the first period. However, eight turnovers in the opening stanza allowed the Bobcats to outscore the Tigers 18-5 from that point.

Overcoming a technical foul on a game-opening slam dunk by Amaree Garmon, Redlands Community College men’s basketball team never trailed in a 93-68 win over Dallas College North Lake.

The win over the reigning NJCAA Division III national champion and top-ranked Blazers moved Redlands to 5-1 on the season.

It was the third straight victory for the Cougars and the second over one of the seven Dallas College teams.

OKLAHOMA CITY – With a playoff berth off the table and facing a one-win opponent, El Reno High School football coach Russell Cook used the four days leading up to the Indians 2024 season finale stressing two simple words – pride and legacy.

His seniors listened.

In their final game the senior classmen produced four turnovers on defense, logged 76 yards of offense and found the end zone three times en route to a lopsided 48-0 victory over Western Heights.

Union City High School’s girls basketball team is off to a 2-0 start for a second straight season after last week’s 36-20 win over Calumet in the battle of Canadian County’s two smallest schools.

The Tigers win kicked off Washita Valley Conference play for both schools as Calumet dropped to 0-1. It was the second straight win for Union City in the rivalry with the Chieftains, who had won five in a row over UCHS until last season’s loss.

Thirteen different players scored as Calumet High School’s boys basketball team kicked off the 2024-25 season with a Canadian County rivalry win over Union City.

The Chieftains, who have now won 26 straight regular-season games dating back to last year, moved to 1-0 in the Washita Valley Conference standings. Union City, meanwhile, slipped to 0-2 on the year and 0-1 in league play.

Calumet has now won 11 straight meetings with the Tigers, who last defeated their cross-county rival by six points (77-71) in 2015.

RCC women remain perfect with 71-57 win

Redlands Community College women’s basketball team remains undefeated on the season with a 71-57 win over Southwestern Christian University’s junior varsity.

The Cougars are now 3-0 on the year after shooting 22-of-71 (31 percent) from the field. Redlands was 10-of-40 from the 3-point arc for 25 percent and made 17-of-28 (61 percent) free throws.

Mykyla Allen led the scoring with 12 points and five rebounds, followed by 11 points and 15 boards from Haven Joseph to go along with four steals. Ellie Willard added 11 points and six caroms.
