Brandleys celebrate 50th anniversary

Charles and Cherlyn “Cherri” (Maass) Brandley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 24, 2021.

They were married at the Oklahoma County Courthouse by Judge Charles Halley in 1971 and later celebrated with friends and family with a reception at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Yukon.

Witnesses at the wedding were Rex and Martha Coit, who remain great friends today.

York named All-American

Body

Peyton York, a 2019 graduate of El Reno and current sophomore education major at Oklahoma City University, was recently named All-American Cheerleader for the second year in a row. The announcement came over the weekend after her coed team won the NAIA National Championship in Davenport, Iowa. She is currently on both the competitive coed and all-girl STUNT teams.

OHCE giving away scholarships to county students

Body

The Canadian County Association for Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) is giving two $500 scholarships to students planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university.

Scholarships are available to any 2021 graduating senior or new G.E.D. certificate holder who resides in Canadian County, is registering for further education for the first time and will be attending an institution of higher education full time. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need, academic record and character recommendations.

Body

These girls from El Reno Public Schools took their solos to recent district competition in Mustang, receiving a superior rating and qualifying for state. They will be performing their solos at the All-State competition in Enid on April 22.

OHS Speech Team places in two events

Body

The Okarche High School Speech Team completed qualifying competition for the 2020-2021 school year by placing several students in two virtual speech tournaments.

During the month of February, OHS speech students competed in the Weatherford and Crescent invitationals.

Two students entered the Weatherford contest, and both received first place in their events, Emma Stover in prose and Brody Sadler in original oratory.

Okarche students place in Delta Kappa Gamma essay contests

Body

Winners of the Kingfisher County 25th Annual Essay Contest hosted by the Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority have been announced.

Winners for the eighth-grade level were Okarche students Brenna Crider, first place, Kylie Harper, second place, and Katy Creswell, third. Seventh-grade winners were Okarche students Jaici Easton, first place, Ethan Kirby, second place, and Addison Mingus, third. Seventh- and eighth- grade English teachers are Lyndal Westmoreland and Traci Fuller.

The first-place winners advance to state competition.
