RCC releases honor rolls for ’21 spring semester

Redlands Community College recently announced students named to the college’s honor rolls for the spring 2021 semester.

Students listed on the President’s Honor Roll have completed 12 or more credit hours and have earned a GPA of not less than 3.8, with no grade less than a B — excluding 0-level courses.

The Vice President’s Honor Roll is for students who have completed 12 or more hours of coursework and have earned a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79, with no grade less than a C — excluding 0-level courses.

El Reno’s Fryar on Dean’s List at Olivet Nazarene

Maddison Fryar of El Reno is among those named to the Dean’s List at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill.

A student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale for inclusion on the Dean’s List.

Okarche’s one-act play takes third

Okarche High School’s contest play, “Kindertransport,” placed third in the OSSAA’s one-act play contest for the 2020-21 school year.

Cherokee was named state champion, with Alva being selected as state runner-up.

Also, OHS junior Emily Neuenschwander was named to the All-State play cast, an honor that goes to the top 10 performances among the eight plays that qualified for state competition.

Baustert earns scholarship

Body

Apron Annies HCE scholarship recipient for 2021 at Okarche High School was salutatorian Nick Baustert, son of John and Donna Baustert.

Baustert plans to attend UCO to become a nurse practitioner.

Elks Lodge grants two scholarships

Body

Elks Lodge 743 granted two scholarships to local high school students in honor of Lisa Darragh, wife of lifetime member Jim Darragh. 

Kaitlyn Parker will be attending Redlands Community College in the fall. She is planning on studying psychology with a career as a psychologist. She was active in fundraising efforts for the El Reno special education program.

Parker is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was on the honor society at Redlands. During high school, she was the student trainer for the football and basketball programs.

Lamplighters HCE holds meeting at local church

Body

Lamplighters Canadian County Chapter of Oklahoma Home and Community Education met recently at a local church. President Joan Herr called the meeting to order and offered opening prayer. Carol Stine led the flag salute and gave a devotional titled “Sleepless Night.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the previous meeting, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report. Morrison represented the club at the Canadian County commissioners meeting when they declared May 2-8 as OHCE Week.

Underwood group discusses fair

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently in the home of Neta Liebscher.

Natalia Valenzuela called the meeting to order. Bernita Davis read minutes of the last meeting, with Ann Ricketts giving the treasury report.

OHCE Extension educator Donna Jung presented the lesson on “Mindful Eating.” She also provided information on the new fairgrounds building, county fair schedule and judging of entries.

Baccalaureate services for Okarche High School Class of 2021 were held May 16 in the OHS gym. Platform guests honoring the seniors were, from left, Superintendent Josh Sumrall, Principal Lisa Munson, Pastor James Inman of First Baptist Church of Okarche, Pastor Kurtis Ivey of Light Your World Church of Okarche, guest speakers Larry Black and Bob Barnett, and Dr. Juanita Krittenbrink, moderator. Couple to marry in Lake Eufaula ceremony

Body

Jessica Hoselton Cowan of El Reno and Landon Davis of Verden are announcing their plans to marry July 10 at Lake Eufaula.

Children of the couple are Hunter, Colton and Cooper Holcomb of El Reno and Haylee Davis of Burns Flat.

Cowan is the daughter of Barbara Hoselton of El Reno and the late Martin Hoselton and granddaughter of the late Richard Buxton of Turpin and the late Gordon K. Hoselton and Georgie Hoselton of El Reno.
