ER Chamber’s Garden Party Tour set for June 27

A Garden Party Tour will be held in El Reno on June 27.

The tour, put on by the El Reno Chamber of Commerce, is supported by Ross Seed, Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply, Voodoo Hydro-El Reno and Walmart.

The tour will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and will include garden viewing at 220 N. Country Club Road, 2106 S. Evans Road, 1108 SE Heritage Drive, 515 S. Hoff, 520 S. Hoff and 616 SW 26th St.

Wristbands for the tour cost $15 and are available at Ross Seed and the El Reno Chamber of Commerce. There will be drawings for prizes.

SWOSU announces degrees

Approximately 711 students from Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford and Sayre completed requirements for associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees after the 2021 spring semester.

Okarche essay winners recognized

Okarche junior high students Brenna Crider and Jaici Easton were recognized at the annual Delta Kappa Gamma conference held recently in Oklahoma City.

The girls submitted essays to the DKG’s annual essay contest, and after placing first in the countywide contest, continued to the state level, each placing first at her grade level.

Brenna and Jaici received certificates of achievement and a monetary award.

Their teachers are Traci Fuller and Lyndal Westmoreland.

SWOSU releases spring honor rolls

Honor rolls at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and Sayre have been announced for the 2021 spring semester.

An undergraduate student earning all A’s in 12 or more hours during a semester qualifies for the President’s Honor Roll. Recognition on the Dean’s Honor Roll includes completion of 12 semester hours of undergraduate work with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher with no grade lower than a C.

ER couple celebrates 60 years of marriage

Tom and Bunny Mathews are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married June 8, 1961, at El Reno First Christian Church.

Tom was employed with the Bureau of Prisons and the couple moved around the United States with his job. They have lived in Texarkana, Texas, Washington, D.C., Seagoville, Texas, Philadelphia, Pa., and Dallas, Texas.

The couple returned to El Reno where Tom retired. Bunny worked with juveniles at the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs.

Ferguson selected for fine arts award

The University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Fine Arts and Design recently awarded more than 130 scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year.

El Reno resident Jillian Ferguson, a contemporary music performance major, received the Connor Hicks Memorial Endowed Music Scholarship.

 

Kiwanis scholarships awarded

El Reno Kiwanis Club 2021 scholarship winners are Hannah Skaggs, Zane Avant, and Ella McReynolds. Hannah will attend Oklahoma City University, Zane will attend Eastern Oklahoma State College and Ella will attend Oklahoma State University.

Each recipient received a $500 scholarship.
