El Reno Wranglers hold meeting

The El Reno Wranglers held their monthly meeting and potluck supper recently at the 4-H building with 19 members attending.

The group discussed the upcoming annual Wranglers Rodeo at the new fairgrounds set to take place Aug. 27, as well as a trail ride planned for June 12.

Next Wranglers meeting will be held June 3.

Local students earn degrees from UCO

The University of Central Oklahoma celebrated the achievements of approximately 1,302 graduates during spring 2021 commencement ceremonies May 7-8 at Central’s Wantland Stadium.

Among those local students earning degrees are Kristen Kennedy of Calumet, BS, Funeral Service; Aubreanna Goodblanket, MS, Speech/Language Pathology; Jasmine Craig, BA, Strategic Communication; Shannon Gipson, BS, General Studies; and Jessika Gorrell, BSED, Elementary Education, all of El Reno; and Jordan Cox of Okarche, Magna Cum Laude, BBA, Finance.

Lamplighters hold first meeting since October

Lamplighters Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at a local church fellowship center.

This was the group’s first meeting since October. Everyone wore masks and followed CDC guidelines.

Joan Herr called the meeting to order and offered prayer. Janice Taylor led the flag salute and presented devotionals titled “Be Ready For Jesus.” Louise Wallace read minutes from the last meeting, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report.

Members chose what leader lessons they would lead.

OHS speech to present one-act play

The Okarche High School Speech Team will present its production of “Kindertransport” on Sunday, May 2 at 2 p.m. in the OHS Black Box Theatre.

The one-act drama will be Okarche’s entry in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association’s one-act play contest.

The story centers around Evelyn, a woman who as a child was sent to England by her Jewish family so that she would be safe from the horrors of war. Raised by an English family and now a mother herself, Evelyn must face her past when her daughter discovers her secret.

Underwood HCE gathers at restaurant

Body

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at a local restaurant. Natalia Valenzuela called the meeting to order, with Bernita Davis reading minutes of the last meeting. Ann Ricketts was elected to serve as the new treasurer.

Valenzuela and Vickie Duncan filled local Blessing Boxes with food items, with members discussing also placing reading materials in the boxes.

Leader lessons were assigned.
