Honor rolls at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and Sayre have been announced for the 2021 spring semester. An undergraduate student earning all A’s in 12 or more hours during a semester qualifies for the President’s Honor Roll.

Tom and Bunny Mathews are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married June 8, 1961, at El Reno First Christian Church. Tom was employed with the Bureau of Prisons and the couple moved around the United States with his job.

The University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Fine Arts and Design recently awarded more than 130 scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year. El Reno resident Jillian Ferguson, a contemporary music performance major, received the Connor Hicks Memorial Endowed Music Scholarship.  

El Reno Kiwanis Club 2021 scholarship winners are Hannah Skaggs, Zane Avant, and Ella McReynolds. Hannah will attend Oklahoma City University, Zane will attend Eastern Oklahoma State College and Ella will attend Oklahoma State University. Each recipient received a $500 scholarship.

Redlands Community College recently announced students named to the college’s honor rolls for the spring 2021 semester.

Maddison Fryar of El Reno is among those named to the Dean’s List at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Okarche High School’s contest play, “Kindertransport,” placed third in the OSSAA’s one-act play contest for the 2020-21 school year. Cherokee was named state champion, with Alva being selected as state runner-up.

Apron Annies HCE scholarship recipient for 2021 at Okarche High School was salutatorian Nick Baustert, son of John and Donna Baustert. Baustert plans to attend UCO to become a nurse practitioner. Honoring Baustert is Apron Annies educational chair, Dr. Juanita Krittenbrink.

Elks Lodge 743 granted two scholarships to local high school students in honor of Lisa Darragh, wife of lifetime member Jim Darragh.  Kaitlyn Parker will be attending Redlands Community College in the fall. She is planning on studying psychology with a career as a psychologist.

Lamplighters Canadian County Chapter of Oklahoma Home and Community Education met recently at a local church. President Joan Herr called the meeting to order and offered opening prayer. Carol Stine led the flag salute and gave a devotional titled “Sleepless Night.”
