Couple to marry in spring ceremony

Kennade Marie Long and Christian Dean Rinehart announce their engagement to be married.

Long is the daughter of Alan and Debbie Long of Yukon, granddaughter of Donald and Evelyn Long of House Springs, Mo., and granddaughter of Helen Brodeur of Yukon and the late Norman Brodeur Sr.

Long is a 2014 graduate of Putnam City North High School and received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Oklahoma State University and her master’s degree in Clinical Professional Counseling from the University of Oklahoma.

Lamplighters meet

Body

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at a local church with Carol Stine offering devotionals titled “Beauty is Fleeting.”

Maxine Little read minutes of the previous meeting, while Patricia Morrison gave the treasury report.

Members remembered their past president and friend, Joan Herr, who passed away in June. A memorial will be sent in her honor to her home church, Highland Baptist.

Members also expressed appreciation for Highland allowing them to conduct their meetings there.

UCO announces honor students

The University of Central Oklahoma recently announced those students named to the university’s honor rolls. For the spring 2022 semester, 1,343 students were named to the President’s Honor Roll, an honor achieved by those who recorded a straight-A or 4.0 GPA.

In addition, 1,376 students were named to the Dean’s Honor Roll with a 3.5 GPA or better and no grade lower than a B.

Fair topic for Underwood

Body

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at a local restaurant with Natalia Valenzuela calling the meeting to order.

Bernita Davis read minutes of the previous meeting, while Ann Ricketts gave the treasury report.

Delpha Miklautsch made a motion to donate to the 4-H Awards.

It was noted the 87th Annual State Conference will be held at the Champion Convention Center in Oklahoma City July 10-12.

Members discussed items needed for the county fair.

EHS class holds luncheon

Body

El Reno High School Class of 1959 met recently for lunch at a Yukon restaurant.

Those attending included Marvin Starkey, Ida and Larry Stephens, Mike Titterington, George Hamilton, Judy Lopez, Krin Boswell, Beverly Faler, Marilyn Louton, Janice Southwick, Kenneth Potts, Otis Bruce, Connie Chitwood, Karen Doughty, Bunny Mathews and Judy Hedrick.

Another get-together is being planned for early August.

Calumet Public Schools recently inducted the inaugural class of its Athletic Hall of Fame.

Learning the art of weaving

The Canadian Valley Art Guild hosted the Weavers Guild of Oklahoma City during its June meeting.

The Weavers Guild gave hands-on demonstrations on various looms and spinning wheels as well as discussing the different materials used for weaving.

Weaving is a centuries-old practice of interlacing yarn or thread together to make woven pieces of fabric.

Weaving differs from other fiber arts such as knitting, crocheting and macramé as it relies on the interlacement of multiple threads to create the patterns and requires a loom.

El Reno’s Brown named to honor roll at Bismarck State

Body

Ethan Brown of El Reno has been named to the President’s Honor Roll for the spring 2022 semester at Bismarck State College, Bismarck, N.D.

Students must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA while enrolled in at least 12 semester hours to qualify for the BSC President’s Honor Roll.

ER Wranglers hold meeting, set June ride

Body

The El Reno Wranglers met recently for their monthly meeting, with Trisha Duncan leading members in the Pledge of Allegiance and Gary Sorrells offering prayer.

It was announced the club will be riding in the Chickasha parade June 25.

Members discussed the upcoming annual Wranglers Rodeo set for Aug. 26-27 at the Denny-Crump Arena.

Next Wranglers meeting is scheduled for July 7 at Adams Park.
