EHS students learn forensics

Body

El Reno High School’s science department recently worked on lab assignments called Locard’s Principle.

Students were given articles of clothing with different hair samples and using a visual description and a microscopic analysis, they had to see which suspect the victim’s clothes matched based on a transfer of evidence.

El Reno Wranglers discuss events

Body

The El Reno Wranglers met recently for their monthly meeting with Trish Duncan leading in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by prayer offered by Gary Sorrells.

The club discussed upcoming events including a Play Day set for Sept. 17, Veterans Day Parade Nov. 6 and a Thanksgiving dinner/auction Nov. 13.

Next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the 4-H building.

Wiedemann named county’s Outstanding Citizen

During the Canadian County Free Fair Family Night festivities, Anna Belle Wiedemann of El Reno was awarded the 2022 Outstanding Canadian County Citizen Award.

Anna Belle’s family attended on her behalf and were presented with a certificate and the top winning cookie jar fair entry, made by Underwood OHCE.

El Reno’s Turner wins raffle for quilt

Body

Ken Turner of El Reno was the winner of a quilt raffled off at the 2022 Canadian County Free Fair by the Canadian County Association for Oklahoma Home and Community Education.

The quilt was made using the blocks from the 2021 Quilt Block Challenge Contest. They were put together, sewn and quilted by Connie Cook of Yukon. Approximately $1,200 was raised, with all proceeds benefiting the Canadian County OHCE High School Scholarship Fund.

Canadian County OHCE awards two $500 scholarships to graduating Canadian County seniors every year.

Quilt Block Challenge

A Quilt Block Challenge Contest was featured at the 2022 Canadian County Free Fair, sponsored by Canadian County Oklahoma Home and Community Education.

Winners were determined by viewers choice voting, with proceeds from the purchase of the designated fabric benefiting the Canadian County OHCE HighSchool Scholarship Fund.

Winners were Macrae Putnam, first place; Christy Lee, second place; Patricia Smith, third place; Georganne Chapman, fourth place; and Cheryl Peebles, fifth place.

Lamplighters OHCE hold meeting at local church

Body

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at a local church.

Carol Stine offered the devotional titled “A Love Letter” and also read the poem “A Perfect Day.” It was from a different era about the many jobs women performed every day.

Maxine Little read minutes from the previous meeting. Members went through a checklist of finished items for the fair and items that members need to bring to the fair. Patricia Morrison has pre-entered all the items.

Next Lamplighters meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 14.
