Pride of El Reno honored

The Pride of El Reno Marching Band took first place in Class 5A at the recent Oklahoma State Fair Parade competition.

The band brought home $550 in prize money.

New Hope Women’s Union gathers for lunch

New Hope Women’s Missionary Union members and guests met recently at the church for a salad and dessert luncheon, followed by the September business meeting.

Guests present were Rayma Richey, Dean Smith, Marquita Barber, Brenda Kurtz and Virginia Becktol. Members attending were Mary Jones, Carol Johnson, Irene Higgins, Marilyn Schmidt and Peggy White.

Pastor Dick Kurtz gave opening prayer.

Underwood OHCE holds monthly meeting

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently in the home of Ann Ricketts.

Natalia Valenzuela called the meeting to order and welcomed Muriel Mahen as a guest.

Ricketts offered the devotion.

Everyone signed a greeting card for Neta Liebscher to be sent to her in Kingfisher. Bernita Davis read minutes of the last meeting, with Ricketts giving the treasury report.

Members discussed the county fair and the many winning entries they received.

El Reno Class of 1959 donates marble bench at high school

Body

El Reno High School Class of 1959 met recently on the southeast corner of El Reno High School to see the new black marble bench that the class had made and installed.

After a lot of pictures and reminiscing, the group headed to a local restaurant for lunch.

The class also presented a check to Norman Sheridan for El Reno Mobile Meals.

New Hope Women’s group hold meeting

New Hope Women’s Missionary Union members and guests met recently at the church for a salad and dessert luncheon, followed by the September business meeting.

Guests present were Rayma Richey, Dean Smith, Marquita Barber, Brenda Kurtz and Virginia Becktol. Members attending were Mary Jones, Carol Johnson, Irene Higgins, Marilyn Schmidt and Peggy White.

Pastor Dick Kurtz gave opening prayer. Jones led the group in reading of the Women’s Missionary Union Watchword and Mission Statement.

Lamplighters OHCE gather at local church

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at a local church.

Carol Stine opened the meeting and read a devotional titled “Not Now God.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meeting and gave the treasury report.

Members welcomed guest Ann Neimann.

Discussion was held about the recent county fair, noting that the club booth placed second, while the educational display placed third.

Calumet Elementary students and teachers gather for a ribbon-cutting to celebrate its Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation STEM Center — Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Devon Energy gifted the learning lab during the pandemic.

The STEM Center includes 3D printers, Snap Circuits, Bee-Bots, Ozobots and other materials to facilitate an understanding of science and the basics of coding.

Curriculum and teacher training were provided by the Ripken Foundation.
