The El Reno FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies Team captured fourth place in the recent State FFA Contest.

Some 50 teams from across Oklahoma took part in the competition at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater.

The El Reno FFA team was among only eight to make it to the finals.

The team is coached by Tarren Sherman, Agriculture Education instructor, and includes Haven Fleenor, Claire Solansky, Maddie Rochdi, Casimir Baeriswyl, Jett Ramsey and Jake Vulgamore.

Named as Okarche September Students of the Month are Jett Mueggenborg and Madison Schaefer.

Recognized as Okarche High School’s September Lioness and Lion are seniors Madison Schaefer and Brody Sadler.

The Canadian County Master Gardeners November monthly meeting will be held at the old fairgrounds education building, 220 N. Country Club Road, on Nov. 1 beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Guest speaker Mark Howery from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife will speak on landscaping for birds and other wildlife in Oklahoma.

These meetings are free and open to the public.

The Master Gardeners will also be holding a crafts sale fundraiser following the meeting from noon to 3 p.m.

Banner School students learned fire safety tips from the El Reno Fire Department last week. October is Fire Safety Month.

The ERFD has a specially designed Fire Safety House that allows firefighters to show students tips to prevent household fires as well as how to safely escape a fire.

Okarche High School’s production of “Property Rites” has advanced to the state contest in the OSSAA’s one-act play competition.

The OHS cast and crew earned a spot at state by placing at one of three regional competitions.

Okarche brought home the second-place plaque from the Leedey regional, with Leedey placing first and Cheyenne taking third.

These plays will join one-acts from Alva, Cherokee, Lincoln Christian, Latta, Chandler and Stratford at Mustang High School Nov. 1 in the state competition. Okarche will perform at 9:50 a.m.

The El Reno Wranglers held their monthly meeting recently at the 4-H building.

Jimmy Johnston opened with the flag salute, with Gary Sorrells leading in prayer.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation recently awarded $15,000 in scholarships to three El Reno High School graduates for the 2022-23 academic year through the state’s largest independent scholarship program.

Matthew Ford, Morgan Girten and Hailey McBroom are all recipients of the Patel Family Scholarship, a $5,000 award offered to graduating high school seniors who participated in the Redlands Community College TRIO Upward Bound program throughout high school.

FCCLA Take AIM Leadership Conference was held recently at Moore Norman Career Tech.

FCCLA chapters from all around Oklahoma participated.

Okarche students Brianna Mollohan, Jordyn Darst, Ella Reherman and Macki Suanny attended with their adviser, Jacqueline Radford.

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at a local church. Carol Stine opened the meeting with a devotional titled “God’s Picket Fence.”

Patricia Morrison read minutes from the last meeting and gave the treasury report.

Membership forms were filled out and dues collected for 2023. 

Janice Taylor presented the lesson on “Health Warning Signs,” reviewing symptoms of heart disease, heart attack, stroke and diabetes.

Others present were Jan Maddox and Ann Niemann.
