El Reno was hit hard by the Monday morning storm that blew through central Oklahoma, but fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported, police said.
Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson said six homes “suffered extensive damage,” all in the Skyview Addition on the west side of town.
Dickerson said three families have been displaced by the storm that was said to have produced winds of more than 80 miles per hour.
Mike Murray lived through a tornado and weather experts will have a hard time convincing him of any other outcome once damage surveys from Monday morning’s storms are complete.
“It was a tornado. I saw one tree twist and that tree is probably 4 foot at its base.”
Murray said the tree was lifted up and thrown into a pond.
“At the same time, I watched another tree on the other side of Darren Koehn’s property and it spun and went down in a different direction,” said Murray.
Canadian County is working toward a website design and ADA compliance.
“There’s a deadline, I want to say it’s in 2027, to have the website completely ADA compliant,” said Lacey Dawson, District 2 commissioner.
“We think we’re really close. We’ve got someone that’s dedicating time to work on that, Ashley Ragsdale, who is our administrative assistant for the commissioners.”
ADA stands for Americans With Disabilities Act.

A delegation from Midleton, County Cork, Ireland, visited southeast Oklahoma this spring in an effort to establish a sister city partnership with the City of McAlester.

At the June El Reno City Council meeting, the founder of the aviation museum, Tony Caldwell, said in the months since opening at El Reno Regional Airport, some 4,000 people have visited, representing 25 states and six foreign countries.
Caldwell won the unanimous blessing of the council to move forward with expansion plans.
