Flips, rolls and military might shown at air show

Passengers in high altitude commercial airliners as well as thousands of ground spectators had a clear view of the 2024 El Reno Air Show and Community Day.

Blue skies and cooler temperatures greeted spectators to the fifth annual event – held under the direction of David Schultz Air Shows - which is celebrating its 30th year. The founder served as Air Boss for the performance.

“We had a great crowd. We won’t know the numbers for a couple of weeks to see how many people attended, but the weather was perfect except for it being a bit windy.

El Reno High School held its 2024 Homecoming Parade last week through downtown El Reno with Super Heroes as the theme.

There were class floats, queen and king candidates and class reunion entries.

Bass Law Firm to hold block birthday party

El Reno’s Bass Law is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a community block party. 

The celebration is set for Thursday, Oct. 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bass Law, 104 N. Rock Island. 

The event will feature food trucks, inflatables, games and live music. 

Gabe Bass said the firm is transitioning to new leadership and wants to celebrate the nine decades of practice in El Reno. 

“Andy and I are looking forward to celebrating the firm’s 90th anniversary,” Gabe Bass said, referring to his father.

Tortoise on a slow run in Piedmont

Ferb the tortoise is missing.

But there’s hope.

Owner Cherrie Zaidi had a call about a possible sighting not a mile from the backyard home near the Piedmont High School tennis courts where Ferb disappeared.

On Sept. 19, a caller said a large turtle, possibly a tortoise, was seen about 6 p.m. crossing Cemetery Road near NW 164th going east to west onto Piedmont Public Works Department property.

Zaidi said she searched the area extensively but with no luck.

Ferb went missing from the Zaidi home on Wednesday morning, Aug. 21.

Excise Board approves 12-day ’25 holiday slate

Canadian County’s holiday schedule has been finalized.

The Canadian County Excise Board unanimously approved 12 days in calendar year 2025 in which county government offices will be closed.

Commissioners had voted 2-1 to approve the annual holiday schedule.

Ten holidays will be observed, with eight being one day and the other two being two days.

Deadline for voter registration nears

Friday, Oct. 11 is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the Nov. 5 General Election.

The ballot will include the presidential race as well as the City of El Reno Ward 1, City of El Reno OG&E Franchise and City of Yukon Charter Changes elections, county election board secretary Allen Arnold said.

Arnold said that persons who are U.S. citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 17 1/2 years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.

Sherry Wood, cherished mother, granny, sister, cousin and friend, peacefully passed away Sept. 24, 2024, at the age of 78. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on in her daughters and grandchildren.

Sherry was born Aug. 27, 1946, to Clarence and Lillian Simpson in Amarillo, Texas. Known for her generosity and exceptional crochet skills, she found joy in every stitch she crafted.

As granny, Sherry delighted in hosting Easter egg hunts and Christmas gatherings that will be treasured for generations to come.
