In an ironic twist of fate, El Reno High School graduate Jaylin Reveles ended up playing what could be her final high school game wearing the same colored jersey as she will in college.
Reveles was named to the Large West team for the recent Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State Games. It’s tradition that the West wears red jerseys with white lettering and the East squad wears blue with white wording.
El Reno’s junior high baseball team kicked off its summer season recently with a 0-3-1 record.
The Indians are playing in the metal bat division of the Red Dirt League, losing twice to Norman, a varsity game to Norman North and tying with Bethany 5-5.

The Indians lost two games to Heritage Hall (11-0/10-2) before splitting with Shawnee. El Reno beat the Wolves 7-5 and lost the nightcap 4-0.
Having ran three Boston Marathons and most recently a half-marathon in Tulsa, Shannon Eichholz knows how to run long distances and do them quickly.
The El Reno native put those experiences to good use over the weekend to rally for the gold medal in the Men’s Olympic-Distance Duathlon at the 2021 Route 66 Multisport Festival.
“Running is more natural for me and just coming off a half marathon (the Golden Driller) in April, I still had good conditioning to help me,” said Eichholz.
El Reno will field a junior high team in the metal bat division of the summer baseball league and a high school varsity team in the wooden bat division.
While it was not “overly physical” according to head coach Chuck Atchison, El Reno High School’s football program wrapped up spring drills with an intra-squad scrimmage.
“We got all our days in. We had a lot of young players that got a lot of reps in and we got what we wanted to get done accomplished. The practices were not overly physical, but that’s OK,” said Atchison.
The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association allows member districts to hold spring contact football drills for 10 days following the conclusion of all state tournaments for spring sports.
El Reno Public Schools broke ground on the next Memorial Stadium improvements which include switching the natural grass with artificial turf.
While a potential record-setting season went belly up over the final week, there was no question El Reno High School’s girls soccer team had some talented players.
Four of those standouts were recently honored with selections to the All-District 5A-1 squads as voted on by member coaches. Caroline Huber was named to the first team, followed by honorable mention picks for Joey Lierle and twins Carlie and Kinley Golden.
With COVID-19 restrictions being eased by both the El Reno Public Schools and the state of Oklahoma, several El Reno High School athletic programs will be holding youth camps this month.
Each camp will have both breakfast and lunch provided to any camper, family member or camp worker under the age of 18 in attendance. Meals are being provided by the ERPS Summer Feeding Program.
Girls Basketball
The late-season push that catapulted El Reno High School’s boys soccer team into the Class 5A playoffs helped land postseason honors for three of its players.
Edgar Garcia, Angel Martinez and Collin Vickers were all voted to the first team on the 2021 District 5A-1 Boys All-District squad.
