After surviving the 54-hole cut, Redlands Community College had a strong chance to finish the 2021 NJCAA Women’s Golf Championships with a top five finish.

However, the Cougars would post their highest team score of the four rounds over the final 18 holes, allowing two teams to leap-frog Redlands in the final standings.

Despite the second day of the 2021 NJCAA Women’s Golf Championships being delayed a day due to rain, the story line has become pretty clear – everyone is chasing defending champ Seminole State.

The Florida-based school, winner of two national titles, holds a 28-stroke lead over Daytona State College after 36 holes – 591-619.

Daytona, a 10-time winner and champ from 2016 until being dethroned by the Raiders in 2019, holds a 31-stroke lead over Ranger (Texas) Junior College, which was third with a 656 tally.

El Reno High School’s 2021 track season came to a close recently at the Class 5A West Regional hosted in Altus, with no thinclads advancing to the state track and field championships.

The El Reno girls did have one runner get close to a state ticket as Bailey Denwalt ran the 400-meter dash in one minute and 7.91 seconds. The effort netted her a ninth-place finish and her time was less than two seconds short of earning a pass to state as an additional qualifier.

Xiven Wallin, playing No.1 singles, dropped an 0-6/0-6 match to Altus’ Tristan Gregg before being eliminated in a close 4-6/3-6 loss to Lawton MacArthur’s Kinlyn Payne Binder.

Jacob Guerrero played No.2 singles, losing in straight sets to Duncan’s Gavin Curry before exiting with a 1-6/0-6 setback to Mac’s Austin Urbanski.

Closing out the COVID-19 delayed 2020 season, Redlands Community College’s soccer team failed to qualify for the NJCAA Region 2 postseason tournament.

The Cougars closed out the year on an 11-match losing streak after dropping a 5-1 home match to the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain. Redlands was 1-12 overall and in the Region 2 standings.

Redlands was the first to score in the loss to the Bucks as Emily Williams took a pass from Ashley Monterrosa and netted her lone shot of the match. It was the first RCC goal in three matches and the 13th on the season.
