While certain aspects of the timed events found on the national series has crept into the format of the Smoke on the Water Drag Boat Races, fans can rest assured the event will not forget its roots.
“We will always be the fastest to the finish, Outlaw-style racing. There will be no index racing at Smoke on the Water. Run what you bring and it’s always fastest to the finish,” said event co-organizer Josh Finnigan.
In its first year of existence, the Enid Outlaws (24-2), owned and operated by El Reno’s Jonathan Reed, have reached the Central Conference Championships of the 2021 The Basketball League playoffs.
The Outlaws, winners of TBL’s Central League’s regular season title with a 22-2 record, went into weekend action at the Stride Bank Center in Enid needing to win two games against the Houston Push.
Houston won the first game of the series 118-98.

El Reno High School’s volleyball program was greeted with its largest turnout for a youth skills camp as 71 campers took part in three days worth of fundamentals training as well as team-building games and competitions.
The camp was held in two sessions and was broken up by experience level.
El Reno High School’s baseball program held its first youth skills camp since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The camp brought 80 players from El Reno, Okarche, Calumet and other towns to the Hub Reed Complex for three days of fundamentals.
While teams they have faced during summer league action may have been fine-tuning their lineups for the upcoming 2021-22 basketball season, El Reno High School coach Rodney Haydon has been evaluating a new crop of players.
“It’s a completely new team for us and we have been trying to get as much court time to start evaluating the kids and see who plays well together and see who plays well in what positions,” said Haydon.
