Denise Renee Baustert of Union City and Okidi Mike Rainbow of Patongo, Uganda, were united in marriage Sept. 26 at Heaston Church in El Reno with Rev. Odus Compton officiating.

The bride is the daughter of David and Carol Baustert of Union City. The groom is the son of Obol Achan of Patongo, Uganda, and Lapong Rose of Ajiali, Uganda.

Wedding music was provided by pianist Ryan Goodrich and harpist Paula Compton performing “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” and “I Got You.” 

Vocalist Caleigh Frahm, niece of the bride, sang “The One I Know I Need.”

Four members of VFW Post 382 attended the state convention held recently at Wyndham Gardens in Oklahoma City. The VFW received 16 awards at the convention, including Auxiliary President Nancy Salsman recognized with the VFW Circle of Achievement Award presented by Past State Auxiliary President Iva Turman. 

VFW National Commander Hal Roesch was in attendance as well as National Auxiliary President Sandra Onstwedder and 10th Council Member Vicki McGahley.

Amy Stout, VFW Post 382 Auxiliary secretary and treasurer, made the cake and cupcakes for the reception.

Steve and Lindy Renbarger of Calumet and Doug and Kim Jech of Kingfisher announce the engagement of their children, Morgan Renbarger and Kyle Jech.

Renbarger is a 2012 graduate of Calumet Public Schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 2016 from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration in 2018 from Northwestern.

She is employed as a third-grade teacher and cheer coach with Calumet Public Schools.

The weather changed from autumn to winter with the wind chill that roared in last week.

Overnight Mother Nature began her seasonal foliage change which always provides a slow-moving, breathtaking picturesque display.

Within a few weeks the Caddo maples will begin to change, reminding the gardener the first freeze will occur within a week.

Canadian Valley Art Guild’s October exhibit is being hosted by MidFirst Bank. An oil painting titled “Storms are a Brewing” by art guild member Nina Goodwin was selected as Best of Show by bank employees. Pictured with Goodwin are Ryan Ross and Mayra Vazquez of MidFirst. The exhibit will be on display through the end of October at MidFirst Bank located at 100 N. Rock Island.

Members of New Hope Women’s Missionary Union met recently at New Hope Church for the group’s monthly meeting. Carol Johnson offered opening prayer and praises. Mary Jones welcomed members and led the reading of the Watchword and Mission Statement.

A mission goal was set for the Lottie Moon Christmas offering through church and missions offerings.

Members were reminded of the annual gift bag donations for Mobile Meals in December. The bags will be filled and taken to Mobile Meals for pre-Christmas delivery.

Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently in the home of Vicki Duncan. Natalia Valenzuela called the meeting to order and led the flag salute. Ann Ricketts read minutes of the previous meeting, with Sue Snyder giving the treasury report.

Members voted to bring cash donations to the next meeting for Blessing Baskets.

Vicki Duncan presented the lesson on DIY Recycling Projects. She noted that paper, newspapers, magazines, cardboard boxes and wooden boxes are some of the easiest items to recycle from home.

Completing the annual Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process can be a daunting task, but the Redlands Community College financial aid team is ready to help.

Normal business hours are Mondays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., but on Mondays during the weeks of Oct. 19 to Nov. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m., the financial aid staff will be focused on helping families navigate the FAFSA.

This assistance is open to anyone regardless of what college or university they plan to attend.

Ernie Loganbill of Independence, Kan., carved a unique Swiss walking stick for the Honorary Swiss Consul of Western United States, Dr. Rico Buchli of Basal, Switzerland.

Loganbill presented the walking stick at a recent meeting in Oklahoma City. The walking stick was carved for the Consul to show appreciation for his contributions to Swiss families.

Dr. Buchli had contributed to the Zweiacher-Girard reunion and his contribution will be displayed on a stand along with the family cowbells from Switzerland.
