SSM Health St. Anthony welcomes Sydney Haggins, MD, as a family medicine physician for men, women and children in El Reno and the surrounding areas.
Haggins will join the SSM Health Medical Group primary care practice at 2315 Parkview Drive alongside Anas Siddiqui, MD, and Robert DiCintio, PA.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the team of Saints in Action here in El Reno,” Dr. Haggins said.
Fresh Anointing Church recently hosted a back-to-school outdoor concert.
A rapper originally from Chicago and now in the construction business in Oklahoma City shared his testimony, followed by a song that he had written, “Let Out The Pain.”
“Give it all away, the pain you feel to God. God truly knows what we need. It’s not always about me, it’s about God. God is doing something in your life – if you just let Him.”
The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at Lake El Reno with Natalia Valenzuela as hostess.
Valenzuela called the meeting to order and led in the flag salute. Bernita Davis read minutes of the previous meeting, with Sue Snyder giving the treasury report.
Vicki Duncan and Valenzuela gave a report on the local Blessing Boxes, with members voting to continue to fill the boxes on a quarterly basis with food and personal items.
Ladies of Bible Baptist Church met recently for their monthly meeting with Jennifer Pearson presiding. She offered the devotional and led in a game called AKA Jesus.
There was discussion about a new project for the ladies called Shields for Moms to be held once a month beginning Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. at the church. There will be discussion on raising children and the home. You don’t have to have children at home to participate, anyone is welcome to attend.
With the weather of late we are seeing strange occurrences in the garden.
For perhaps the first time in many years we have an odd assortment of mushrooms appearing everywhere.
It seems that every flower pot and crevice has sprouted a different and interesting specimen, with some tiny, others in large clusters, some wrinkled, others silky smooth, and all with interesting texture and color.
We are rarely treated to their presence since they require cooler weather and moisture to complete their life cycle.
SSM Health St. Anthony is adding a new physician to its El Reno medical group.
Anas Siddiqui, MD, will provide comprehensive, non-emergency treatment for men, women and children with acute and chronic conditions, as well as preventive care.
“El Reno is a vibrant, closely knit community, and I look forward to getting to know patients and their families, developing relationships over time,” said Dr. Siddiqui. “My goal is always to listen carefully to patients and put their needs first.”
The Canadian County Extension Service is announcing enrollment opportunities for 4-H 2020-21.
There will be two separate days to allow families to enroll their children online, as well as multiple kiosks and plenty of staff on hand to help answer any questions.
Enrollment will be held Aug. 18 between 5 to 8 p.m. at the Canadian County Fairgrounds Education Building. Although this is a come-and-go opportunity, staff will require masks to be worn. Masks will be available for those who do not have one.
Abby Jeffrey of El Reno was recently awarded a $500 scholarship from the Canadian County Association for Oklahoma Home and Community Education to be used during her first year of college.
Jeffrey is the daughter of Peter and Kristi Jeffrey of El Reno.
Proceeds from the quilt raffle and quilt block challenge contest at the 2019 Canadian County Fair were used to help fund the scholarship.
Descendants of Elmo and Agnes Finnigan held their annual reunion recently at Roman Nose State Park.
Attending were their sons, Mike Finnigan and family, Josh Finnigan, Teagan, E.J. and Dacien Finnigan and Kaylee Finnigan; Tim and Danella Finnigan and family, Steve and Tammy Dye, Jake and Scarlett Dye, Zac Dye, John and Sally Atkins and Coy Atkins; Pat and Cheryl Finnigan and family, Carson Mahoney, Rowdie and Crete Smillie, Jerzie Finnigan, Monica Griffitts and Ryatt Griffitts.
As the garden was winding down last fall, I noted the plants that were performing valiantly and planned to include them again this year.
Fortunately, some had saved their show for the end of the season, indicating perhaps the best had been saved for last.
The colors of the late bloomers seemed deeper and more vibrant, as though the stressful conditions of the summer heat gave them an extra boost.
