Spring semester honor rolls at Northwestern Oklahoma State University have been announced.

Those on the President’s Honor Roll earned all A’s or a 4.0 grade point average.

Those on the Vice President’s Honor Roll had grade point averages of 3.5 or better.

Among those local students listed on the President’s Honor Roll are Austin Luker of El Reno and Abby Detar of Piedmont. Named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll is Kelsey Neal of Piedmont.

Listed on the President’s Honorable Mention are Kaslin Baros of Calumet and Summer Thiele of Piedmont.

The EHS Art Club once again earned Best of Show in the Ribbon Recycle Challenge for the fourth time in six years. This year, graduate Taryn Wahweah was chosen as the Judges Choice Award Winner with her macro photography. This is one of the highest individual awards at the state fair. Michelle Obert is the EHS art teacher and Marci Underwood is the sponsor.

Oklahoma State University 2020 spring semester honor rolls have been announced, with full-time undergraduate students completing 12 or more hours with a grade point average of 4.00 recognized on the President’s Honor Roll, and students with a grade point average of 3.50 or higher with no grade below a C earning placement on the Dean’s Honor Roll.

Lamplighters Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at the Wallace farm for a bring-your-own-lunch meeting.

Joan Herr led in prayer, with Carol Stine offering devotions on “Looking Ahead to Where God Is.” Louise Wallace read minutes from the March meeting, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report. Plans were discussed concerning county fair exhibits, with a report from the county extension office advising there will be no education booth this year.

It was noted that Charleece McBee recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Wonderous watermelons - dedicated to my grandson, Nash, who loves them!

Watermelon is thought to have originated in the Kalahari Desert of Africa and its popularity is partially due to the flavor and the amount of water it contains ... it is 92 to 94 percent water, thus the name.

Much of the epic history of the watermelon has been researched by Harry Paris, a horticulturalist at the Agricultural Research Organization in Israel, who has spent years assembling clues including ancient Hebrew texts, artifacts in Egyptian tombs and medieval illustrations.

Okarche High School senior Carsyn Taylor has been recognized as a recipient of the State Superintendent’s Award for Arts Excellence for 2020.

Taylor, a four-year member of the Okarche Speech and Drama Department, was one of 25 students statewide to receive the award in the field of theater.

The University of Central Oklahoma College of Mathematics and Science recently awarded scholarships to Calumet resident Kristen Kennedy in recognition of her academic excellence and outstanding service to the university.

Kennedy, a funeral service major, received the Mollie Barrett Tallant Scholarship for CMS and the Funeral Service Department Endowed Scholarship.

Members of the Women’s Missionary Union of New Hope Baptist Church met recently for their final session until fall, with Carol Johnson offering opening prayer.

The group approved donations to Blessing Baskets Summer Food Program, Baptist youth camp registration, ICAN Women’s Shelter, CART House, The Lord’s Harvest, Youth and Family Services and postage for mailing of Military Gift Boxes.

The El Reno Wranglers met recently for their June gathering, the first meeting since March due to COVID-19. There were 29 members present and one guest, Emily Marchman. 

Brady Armold led the flag salute and Gary Sorrells offered prayer. 

Members discussed riding in the Chickasha parade June 27. Possible trail rides and upcoming play days were also discussed. 

The next meeting will be held July 2 beginning at 6 p.m. with a cookout and trail ride.
