Redlands Community College Foundation is able to provide thousands of dollars in scholarship support each year to students who may not be able to afford college.
Much of this support is created through the foundation’s annual fundraiser.
This year the foundation is departing from its popular Dollars for Scholars event to hold a Phantom Fundraiser.
“Through the generosity of donors over the past few years, we have been able to increase scholarship opportunities for Redlands students,” said Brooke Robertson, president of the foundation.
Fresh Anointing Church, 1300 W. Watts, will have a guest speaker on Sunday, Oct. 18 as Rev. Terry Lowder offers words of faith and hope. Rev. Lowder is assistant superintendent of the IPHC Heartland Conference.
The church is practicing social distance seating and there will be special seating for those who wear a mask to feel more comfortable.
On Saturday, Oct. 31, Trunk-or-Treat for kids will be held beginning at 5 p.m. until the candy, which will already be bagged, runs out. Trunks will be decorated and there will be lots of fun in the parking lot.
The award amount of $3,500 was from a grant written specifically to provide personal protective equipment for El Reno Public Schools. The grant was received from the Elks National Foundation to the El Reno Elks Lodge. Over the past seven years, the El Reno Elks Lodge has received 22 grants totaling $64,000 to support the local community.

Oklahoma City Community Foundation recently awarded $57,000 in scholarships to 23 Canadian County high school graduates for the 2020-21 academic year through the state’s largest independent scholarship program.
Designed to help a diverse range of students with higher education expenses, Oklahoma City Community Foundation scholarships offer students the ability to pursue careers or colleges they may not have had the opportunity to pursue otherwise.
United Way of Canadian County kicked off its annual campaign in an effort to raise funds that help support 16 area agencies.
The agencies work to provide health and human services to Canadian County residents.
Richard Steanson, 2020 United Way of Canadian County campaign chair, and Jan Foreman, 2020 United Way of Canadian County president, kicked off the campaign by way of video.
Schools in the area kicked off their second full month of classwork, both online and in-person.
