Lindsay Marie (Elliott) Hart and Brandon Lance Arnold were united in marriage Oct. 2 at Party Haven Event Center in El Reno with Matt Miller, uncle of the bride officiating.

The couple exchanged traditional vows as well as their own under a hexagon-shaped arbor made by the bride’s grandfather.

The bride is the daughter of Wayne and Lisa Elliott and granddaughter of Howard E. Miller and the late Cleta F. Miller and the late Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Elliott, all of El Reno. The groom is the son of Debra Arnold of Norman.

Okarche High School has announced Students of the Month for the fall semester.

Honorees are selected by the faculty and are chosen based on individual academic achievement as well as recognizing students who model superior character and citizenship.

August/September honorees are seventh-grader Cody Endres and junior McKenzie Stewart.

October honorees are junior Kaylea Steelman and seventh-grader Sam Kroener.

November honorees are junior Trenton Neiderer and seventh-grader Jett Mueggenborg.

Okarche High School has announced Lions and Lionesses chosen for August through November.

Those selected for this recognition must be a junior or senior and are chosen for their scholarship, leadership, willingness to help others, self-motivation and self-discipline. August/September honorees are Evan Endres and Lexi Taylor. October honorees are McKenzie Stewart and Trenton Niederer. November honorees are Payton Kerby and Mackenzie Schneiter. 

Redlands Community College recently announced students named to the college’s honor rolls for the fall 2020 semester.

Students listed on the President’s Honor Roll have completed 12 or more credit hours and have earned a GPA of not less than 3.8, with no grade less than a B – excluding 0-level courses.

The Vice President’s Honor Roll recognizes students who have completed 12 or more hours of coursework and have earned a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79, with no grade less than a C – excluding 0-level courses.

Fresh Anointing Church will hold a chili cook-off on Sunday, Feb. 7 after the morning service which starts at 10:30 a.m.

There will be a prize given for the best chili. All are encouraged to come out and worship and enjoy a bowl of chili, then go home and watch the Super Bowl.

Every Wednesday night at 6 p.m., the church has started back with Dinner and a Bible Study. The dinner is free to the public.

The church has been practicing social distancing for months, and will continue doing so until the mandate is lifted.

Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, has announced fall 2020 graduates, including Alana McKinney of El Reno, graduating with a Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner.

In the battle against childhood obesity, Oklahoma State University Extension is helping students in the Westville Public School District develop safer walking and biking routes to school.

Jessie Garcia, Oklahoma State University Extension educator, High Obesity Program, spearheaded the Safe Routes to School project in Adair County. She said the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s Wellness Profile indicates the childhood obesity rate in the county is 51.3 percent, significantly higher than the state’s average of 36.5 percent.

Martin and Lanoy Peters of Okarche are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

Martin C. Peters and Lanoy A. Bolin were married Jan. 27, 1961, at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Ervin officiating.

Peters graduated from Okarche High School in 1956 and Lanoy graduated from El Reno High School in 1962.

Peters was employed with OG&E for 36 years, started his own roofing business and retired to farming. Lanoy worked in banking for 36 years and has also retired to farming.
