Indians secure two spots on OSCA All-State team

While edged out of the playoffs via tiebreaker points, El Reno High School’s boys soccer team was well represented on three postseason honors squads, including All-State accolades.

Senior forward Edgar Garcia and midfielder Christian Diaz were named to the West squad for the 2022 Class 5A Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association’s All-State Game.

That will be played June 10 at Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa, with game time set for 8 p.m.

El Reno High School graduate Paige Primeaux recently signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for Haskell Indian Nations University. Primeaux is the fourth player off El Reno’s state runner-up team to sign a college scholarship offer.

El Reno secures spots on postseason squads

El Reno High School’s girls soccer team secured 10 spots on three separate postseason honors teams, including three selections by the prestigious Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association All-State Committee.

Seniors Caroline Huber, along with sisters Carlie and Kinley Golden were named to the West squad for the Class 5A All-State Game, which will be played June 10 at Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa. Game time is 6 p.m.

RCC slides during final round, places ninth at NJCAA nationals

Shooting the fourth highest team score in the final round, Redlands Community College’s golf team slipped to ninth place in the final standings at the 2022 NJCAA Women’s National Golf Championships.

The Cougars fired their lowest score of the tourney, a 321, in the third round to enter the final day in seventh place.

However, Redlands carded a 339 over the final 18 holes to drop two spots.

Redlands, playing the Mayfair Country Club course in Sanford, Fla., posted scores of 331/330/321/339 for a 72-hole total of 1,321.

Four area seniors, three from El Reno High School, have been selected to play in the 2022 Western Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association’s All-Star Games.

El Reno’s Vincent Walker was named to the Large West team as a pitcher, while Brayden Fulton was picked as one of two catchers on the same squad. Dacus Cooper was selected as an infielder.

The trio will join Calumet’s Jaxon Olive, who was named to the Small West squad as an outfielder.

Richardson trims shots off second trip to state tourney

Trimming 36 strokes from his total at state as a freshman, El Reno High School sophomore Bryan Richardson placed 74th in the medalist chase at the 2022 Class 5A Boys State Golf Championships.

Playing the 6,601-yard course at Duncan Golf and Tennis Club, Richardson carded rounds of 109/100/105 for a 54-hole total of 314.

Redlands eyes run for top five

Body

Consistent play at the halfway point has put Redlands Community College in position to make a run for a top five finish during the 2022 NJCAA Women’s National Golf Championships.

Playing the par-72, 5,941-yard Mayfair Country Club course in Sanford, Fla., Redlands was sitting in eighth place after 36 holes with a team total of 661.

The Cougars, after posting rounds of 330/331, are six strokes behind Eastern Florida State (655) for seventh and eight shots behind Dodge City Community College (653) for sixth.

Thinclads miss state tickets from 5A regional

El Reno High School’s 2022 track season came to an end at the Class 5A West Regional held at Putnam City, with no thinclads advancing to the state meet.

The Indians had no field event entries for either boys or girls and the runners were primarily in the shorter distances.

Maria Moreno was 11th in the preliminary heats of the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.09 seconds, followed by Gracie Wieland (14.64) in 14th and Madeline Taylor (15.57) in 16th.
