After a series of near misses in recent years, El Reno High School is headed back to the Class 5A Girls State Golf Championships with a full squad.

El Reno took fourth place in the Class 5A West Regional played on the Aqua Canyon Course at Cimarron National Golf Club in Guthrie last week. The event was shortened to nine holes due to rain.

The Indians carded a 196 score, led by Skylar Ayers with a round of 45, followed by duplicate rounds of 49 from Kallie Maifield and Madison Patswald. Emma Patswald posted a 53 and Trinity Black a 67.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Despite holding a 14-6 edge in shots during the second half, El Reno High School’s girls soccer team dropped a 2-1 match to Mount St. Mary last week.

The loss was the third in a row for El Reno, which closes out the 2023 season with a 5-8 record.

The Rockets led 1-0 at the half following a goal in the first eight minutes.

El Reno tied the match with 24:57 left in the second half when Lily Hayes took a shot from the left side which was cleared by a MSM defender into the net.

OKLAHOMA CITY – In one of the quickest matches this season, El Reno High School’s boys soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Mount St. Mary last week to close out the 2023 season.

Both the boys and girls matches were trimmed back to a pair of 30-minute halves separated by a five-minute halftime. The move was done to avoid pending rainstorms.

The loss was the fourth in a row for El Reno, three by shutouts, dropping the Indians to 3-10 on the year.

The Rockets scored in the 25th and eighth minutes to lead 2-0 at the half, before adding a goal in the second half.

Redlands Community College’s golf team must wait for an at-large bid to the 2023 NJCAA Division I National Championships after placing third recently in the Southwest District Championships held in Arizona.

The Cougars carded a 910 total over 54 holes after shooting a 308 over the final 18 holes. Redlands posted scores of 300 and 302 in the first two rounds. Western Texas Community College (886) won the team title, while Odessa College (899) was second.

Kingston Arnold hit an RBI-triple to score Dalton Belcher in the top of the eighth inning as Calumet High School’s baseball team tuned up for the regional round of the playoffs with a 3-1 over Weatherford.

Calumet, ranked fourth in Class B, improved to 16-7 on the spring season.

The Chieftains scored two runs in the eighth as Kyler Thiessen drew a one-out walk before scoring on Belcher’s single.

Calumet closed the game with four base hits, two each from Arnold and Belcher – one of those a double.

Extending its current win streak to seven games, Union City High School’s baseball team captured the 2023 Class A, District 18 Championship.

The Tigers, ranked 18th in the state, improved to 20-5 on the season after beating Southwest Covenant (14-0) and sweeping two games from Central High by scores of 13-7 and 5-0.

Union City now advances to the Class A, Region 2 Championships which were slated to start Thursday in Canute.

The Tigers got strong pitching wins from Rocky Carroll, Tyler Norton and Laven Zeier in the district run.

Union City High School’s slow-pitch softball team will carry a three-game win streak into the regional round of the playoffs following an 8-5 tuneup victory over rival Hinton.

The Tigers, ranked sixth in the state, moved to 24-14 on the season with the win and were slated to play in the Region 1 Championships at Shattuck, which started Thursday.

Union City was coming off a sweep of Quinton by scores of 12-2 and 11-1 to win the school’s first-ever District 6 Championship.

Losing three of four games to Murray State has slipped Redlands Community College’s baseball team into a tie for fifth place in the NJCAA Region 2, Division 2 standings.

The Cougars avoided the sweep with an 11-8 win in the final game after dropping contests by scores of 11-1, 7-0 and 8-6. Redlands is now 12-16 in the division and 20-28 overall.

Redlands is tied with Northern Oklahoma College of Enid, but the Jets hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.

El Reno High School’s baseball team needed, but did not get, just one or two clutch hits in last week’s non-district clash with Class 6A’s Ponca City – which ended in a 2-0 loss to the Wildcats.

The Indians had six base runners in the game and left five of those stranded on base.

Four were in scoring position, with two left stuck at third on two-out strikeouts.

The loss dropped El Reno to 12-18 on the season.

Back-to-back setbacks will leave El Reno High School’s girls soccer team in sixth place in the final District 5A-2 standings following a 6-0 road loss to Carl Albert.

El Reno was slated to wrap up the regular season Tuesday night at Mount St. Mary, a non-district contest, after posting a 2-5 mark in 5A-2 play. The Indians took a 5-7 overall record into the match with the Rockets.

Carl Albert outshot El Reno 14-2, with 12 of those shots by the Titans on frame.

Ximena Salazar and Maddie Rochdi recorded the shots for the Indians.
