Southwestern Oklahoma State University students were recently honored for their academic achievements and service during a Distinguished Student Award ceremony and reception held recently on the Weatherford campus.

Campus nominating committees select the students based on academic achievements, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

Students selected from SWOSU include Kelln Bodley, Minco High School, and Zachary Grimes and Ashtyn McAddo, Piedmont High School.

Women of the 1960 El Reno High School graduating class are looking for ladies who graduated with them for a luncheon.

Due to COVID, the class was unable to have a 60th class reunion, and now turning 80 years old this year, the ladies want to celebrate surviving another year.

A gathering is planned April 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Johnnie’s Charcoal Broiler, 2652 W. Britton Road in Oklahoma City.

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently in the home of Vicki Duncan, with Natalia Valenzuela serving as hostess.

Bernita Davis read minutes of the previous meeting, with Ann Ricketts giving the treasury report.

Valenzuela demonstrated the art of making hot chocolate bombs, with members given bombs to take home.

The group discussed the upcoming West District OHCA meeting set for March 25 at First United Methodist Church in Duncan.

To prune or not to prune, that is the question. When Oklahoma experiences warmer weather in the winter months, homeowners may want to take advantage of the milder temperatures and get a head start pruning trees and shrubs in the landscape.

The purpose of pruning is to maintain the intended purpose of the plants in the landscape, improve plant appearance and protect people and property.

Members of the Okarche High School Speech Team competed in two virtual tournaments during the month of February.

In a virtual tournament, students either submit video recordings of their performances for judging or compete via video-conferencing software.

In both competitions, OHS received the team sweepstakes trophy.

Archery Traditions of Oklahoma recently hosted the USA Archery Sanctioned Oklahoma JOAD Indoor Tournament Series.

Ethen Turner of El Reno Public Schools has been involved in JOAD for five years and participated in the tournament series. He placed first in the state in the male classic compound bowman division.
