OHS speech places at Shattuck

Body

Five members of the Okarche speech team earned second-place sweepstakes honors at the Shattuck Invitational Speech Tournament. Every OHS student competing won at least one medal.

Hunter Buck took second in prose and was a finalist in domestic extemp. Maddie Vogt placed first in public-forum debate, with Anna Shirey taking third in foreign extemp and second in championship standard oratory.

Shirey, in addition to placing first in public-forum debate with Vogt, took third in domestic extemp and third in championship original oratory.

Lamplighters OHCE gather at Mount Zion Church for meeting

Body

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Methodist Church. Carol Stine called the meeting to order, while Ann Niemann led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Stine offered the devotional titled “Compassion.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meetings, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report.

Morrison presented the leader lesson on “How to Make Your Home Secure.” Tips were given on what can be done to provide security for ourselves, our homes and our vehicles.  

El Reno Wranglers gather for meeting

The El Reno Wranglers recently gathered for their February meeting, with Jimmy Johnston calling the meeting to order. Trisha Duncan led in the flag salute, while Gary Sorrells offered prayer.

Johnston presented the club with the IPRA 2022 Rodeo of the Year Award.

Members discussed riding in the Stockyards St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 11 and the Chickasha parade June 23 and 24.

There was also discussion regarding working on another Mustache Bash.

Next Wranglers meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 2 at the 4-H building.

Okarche January Students of the Month are Jade Jackson and Kade Henrichs.

Okarche speech team places seven in Weatherford Invitational

Body

Seven members of the Okarche High School Speech Team recently competed in the Weatherford Invitational Tournament, with every Okarche participant placing in the contest.

Maddie Vogt and Anna Shirey took third in public-forum debate. Riley Black placed first in poetry and teamed with Reagan Marler to take first in humorous duet.

Kylie Bailey earned first place in monologue.

Sara Leck was second in humorous interp and a finalist in poetry. Rylie Bomhoff took first in humorous interp and second in dramatic interp, and was a finalist in monologue.

The Okarche High School Speech Team recently brought home the Class 3A sweepstakes plaque from the Okeene tournament.

Okeene’s annual invitational speech tournament drew entries from nine area high schools in Class 3A. 

OHS had 13 placings in the contest and also earned three special awards.

Brody Sadler placed second in public forum debate with his brother, Kyle Sadler, and also placed second in domestic extemp.

Couple exchange wedding vows in VFW ceremony

Body

Clairetha Griffis of Fort Eutis, Va., and Glenn A. Barnes Sr. of Port Norris, N.J., were united in marriage June 5, 2021, at the El Reno VFW with Wes Brower officiating.

Wedding music was provided by DJ LaMorce Fuston of Oklahoma City.

The bride wore a gold and blue gown featuring a gold lace bodice and royal blue skirt. She carried a bouquet of royal blue flowers and baby’s breath.

Bride’s attendants were Ashante Davis and Montay and Sadri Davis of Tulsa, LaWanda Solomon and Beverly Wilson of Bethany and Lisa Chapel and Brielle and Bryleigh Jones of El Reno.
