Couple exchange wedding vows in VFW ceremony

Clairetha Griffis of Fort Eutis, Va., and Glenn A. Barnes Sr. of Port Norris, N.J., were united in marriage June 5, 2021, at the El Reno VFW with Wes Brower officiating.

Wedding music was provided by DJ LaMorce Fuston of Oklahoma City.

The bride wore a gold and blue gown featuring a gold lace bodice and royal blue skirt. She carried a bouquet of royal blue flowers and baby’s breath.

Bride’s attendants were Ashante Davis and Montay and Sadri Davis of Tulsa, LaWanda Solomon and Beverly Wilson of Bethany and Lisa Chapel and Brielle and Bryleigh Jones of El Reno.

Okarche speech team nabs sweepstakes award in Alva

Body

Eight members of the Okarche High School Speech Team brought home Class 3A sweepstakes honors in the Alva Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament.

Senior Brody Sadler placed second in domestic extemporaneous speaking and teamed with junior Anna Shirey to place first in debate.

Shirey also placed first in original oratory and was a finalist in domestic extemp.

Lamplighters OHCE gather at local church for meeting

Body

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at a local church. Carol Stine opened the meeting and led members in the flag salute. Maxine Little read minutes from the previous meeting, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report.

A thank-you card was read from the sheriff’s department for the blanket throws that were given to them. The officers keep them in their patrol cars for children or adults in crisis situations.

Yearbooks were passed out and leader lessons were assigned for the coming year. Janice Taylor presented the lesson titled “Our Brain Health.”
