Couple celebrate 60th anniversary

Ken and Donna Posey are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple met in the fall of 1963 at Central State University in Edmond.

They were married Sept. 19, 1964, in Marlow Central High Baptist Church and moved to El Reno in the fall of 1965.

Posey taught English and reading and coached football, basketball and EHS golf. Donna taught second and third grades at Lincoln Elementary.

The couple have two children, Lance and Lanae.

At the 2024 State Fair of Oklahoma, The Pride of El Reno won 5A Band Competition, first place, 5A Drum Major, first place, 5A Color Guard, first place, and 5A Drum Line, second place.

El Reno High grads earn OSU scholarships

Body

Several Canadian County students were honored recently by the Oklahoma State University Ferguson College of Agriculture with academic scholarship support for the 2024-2025 academic year.

These scholarships are part of the more than $1.8 million that students receive from the Ferguson College and its academic departments.

Students from all areas of study are considered for university scholarships, which can be combined with college and departmental opportunities.

Swiss duo visit El Reno

Ed and Barbara Zweiacher hosted visitors from Switzerland last week. 

Katja Zweiacker and Bjorn Schmid were traveling on Route 66 from Flagstaff, Ariz., to Chicago and stopped to visit in El Reno.

They are from Jegenstorf, Switzerland, where Ed’s grandfather came from. All the Zweiackers trace their lineage to Jegenstorf, Ed said.

FCC Marketplace set for Sept. 28

Body

First Christian Church’s annual Marketplace is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church located at 400 S. Barker Avenue.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans/corn, roll, dessert and drink.

Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.

There will be a Gourmet Shoppe with homemade food items featuring baked goods, relishes, jellies and much more.

Homemade cinnamon rolls will be sold.

There will also be a Holiday and This-N-That booth.

Underwood OHCE held its September meeting recently at a local restaurant. Members attending were Vicki Duncan, Janan Fletcher, Natalia Valenzuela and Ann Ricketts, along with guests, Renee’ Schweitzer and Michele Rivers.

Valenzuela opened the meeting with “How do you prepare for a power outage?”

The lesson focused on “The Power Went Out, Is My Food Still Safe?”

P.E.O. Chapter AE spaghetti supper held

Chapter AE of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) held its annual spaghetti supper in the home of Becky Reuter. Co-hostesses were Christy Eichholz and Lindsey Vise. Others attending were Holly Eaton, Janan Fletcher, Cindy Ward, Karen Pappus, Margaret Price, Ann Zavy, Anna Rinehart, Cynthia Jensen, Robin Mahone, Darla Reuter and Barbara Johnson.
