When folks around here think of agriculture research, Fort Reno probably comes to mind.

The USDA has been operating there for decades and recently has been making headlines because the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes continue to argue the land rightfully belongs to them.

Congressman Frank Lucas apparently doesn’t agree and had language inserted in this year’s proposed Farm Bill that would allow that to happen, never.

City steps up efforts to curb juvenile crime

Body

The city of El Reno is stepping up efforts to deal with juveniles who go astray of the law in an attempt to create some “early intervention.”

The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to enter into an agreement with the District Court of Canadian County that will allow the Municipal Court to assume more control of most juvenile matters.

Juveniles who are charged with committing more serious law violations will continue to find themselves involved with the District Court.

Checking into the family’s hotel

Body

The following is found on the website of the Canadian County Historical Museum:

The El Reno Hotel was built on the southwest corner of Wade and Choctaw in 1892 by J.M. Kemp. Later it was owned by John and Emma Kossuth, who sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Hiram M. Foster in December 1901.

It stayed in their family for over 80 years. Mrs. Foster operated it until 1959, then her son, Clifford took over until 1964. At that time Mrs. Foster’s daughter, Catharine Lemon took over and operated it until it closed permanently in 1974.
