OSSAA tries to block student transfers

Body

Under a rule adopted by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA), students who attend a summer sports camp are barred from playing any sports for a year if they move into a district that employs a coach who also worked those camps during the summer months.

State Rep. Jon Echols, an Oklahoma City Republican who is also an attorney, says lawsuits are likely and views the OSSAA’s new rule as an effort to undermine Oklahoma’s open-transfer law, which allows students to attend any public school district that has space available.

Body

The city of El Reno “broke” ground Tuesday on the new Filling Station project, the plan being to have the corner ready in time for the annual Burger Day Festival in early May.

The more than $1 million renovation of the former service station is being funded through a grant from the Oklahoma Route 66 Commission. Lingo Construction has been hired to renovate the building. The design was created by Halff Associates, the company hired by the city to create a Master Plan for the Adams Park and Lake El Reno area.

City: Social media post meant as educational

A social media post from the city of El Reno about a recent fire at Vickie’s Convenience Store and Rick’s Garage on Sunset Drive left the business with a “black eye,” according to one of the owners.

Nick Pugh said he was frustrated after he said the city insinuated through social media that a pile of used tires stacked behind the business may have been the cause of the fire.

This photo provided by the city shows the fire in question behind Vickie’s C-Store and Rick’s Garage
