Okarche rebounds from rare loss; Calumet girls third in WVC Shootout

After having its 12-game win streak snapped by Class 2A’s second-ranked Amber-Pocasset, Okarche High School’s girls basketball team closed out the regular season with a 54-40 win over Cashion.

The Warriors, ranked seventh in the same Class 2A poll, improved to 19-5 on the season. Okarche fell to the Panthers by a 47-43 margin in its closest contest since the famed Tournament of Champions in December.

Emma Stover led Okarche in scoring in the win over Cashion with 27 points and logged 35 for the two-game set.

Okarche steals way to win over Cashion to extend streak

Okarche High School’s boys basketball team turned a double-digit steal count into a 20-6 scoring edge in points off turnovers en route to a 64-56 win over Class A’s 17th-ranked Cashion to close out the regular season.

The Warriors, ranked fifth in Class A, improved to 22-2 on the season and extended their current win streak to nine games. The Cashion win was the seventh this season against a ranked opponent.

The game was tied 28-all at the half before Okarche went on a 36-28 run over the final two periods, including a 23-17 run in the fourth period.

String of turnovers cost RCC in home loss to Mountaineers

Seven turnovers in the second period, three of those shot-clock violations, hampered Redlands Community College women’s basketball team last week in a 71-50 loss to Eastern Oklahoma State College.

The Cougars are on a three-game losing skid which dropped them to 3-7 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings and down to seventh place. Redlands took a 10-14 overall record into a road game at Connors State.

The loss to Eastern came on the heels of a 64-54 setback to Northern Oklahoma College of Enid. The two losses were against two of the top four teams in the region standings.

Cougars slip into bottom of Region 2 standings

A four-game losing streak has sent Redlands Community College men’s basketball team to the bottom of the NJCAA Region 2 standings following an 83-70 setback to Eastern Oklahoma State College.

The Cougars were coming off an 82-72 loss to Northern Oklahoma College of Enid and stand at 2-8 in the league and 10-14 on the season. Redlands trails NOC Tonkawa (3-8) by a half game and Murray State by a full game but are only two games back of fifth-place Western Oklahoma.

Cougars take series over OCU

Redlands Community College’s baseball team kicked off its 2023 season by winning three of four games against Oklahoma Christian University’s junior varsity squad.

The Cougars split the first two games, winning 8-4 and losing by a close 4-2 margin. Redlands then took the series by sweeping both games over the second day with scores of 12-2 and 19-9.

Redlands’ 41 runs for the series came off a .400 batting average as the Cougars went 42-of-105 from the plate. Three of the four games were double-digit hit totals including 16 in the final game.

Indians ride big third quarter to key Bears win

It took two periods to shake off the rust of a long break but El Reno High School’s boys basketball team did just what it needed to do in its final game before reporting date for playoff seedings – win and in a convincing fashion.

El Reno used a 26-5 run in the third period to pull away from a pesky Noble team for a 68-36 victory. The win, the third in a row, moved the Indians to 3-2 in the Suburban Conference standings.

Second-period blitz lifts girls to 54-38 win

Other than a tie early in the second period, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team held a comfortable lead over the Noble Bears and rolled to a 54-38 victory in the first action in 13 days due to winter weather.

The win pushed El Reno to 4-1 in the Suburban Conference standings and keeps Jennifer Douglas’ team in a tie for second place.

Darlington School’s girls basketball team will be making its 12th straight trip to the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools state tournament after winning the West Division III title with a 40-15 win over Maple.

The Chiefs open state Thursday at Shawnee, with tipoff set for 8 p.m.

Chiefs go for another gold ball

Darlington School’s boys basketball team is headed back to the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools state tournament for a 10th straight season after winning the West Division III title with a 40-13 win over Oak Grove.

The Chiefs have won six state titles in a row and eight overall and open the 2023 run Thursday in Shawnee at 2 p.m.

Maple School’s girls basketball team earned a second straight trip to the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools state tournament with a runner-up finish in the Division III West Championship.

The Eagles open state Thursday at Shawnee against Moffett. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
