Slow-pitch softball teams break streaks

All three Canadian County slow-pitch softball teams ended losing streaks last week as Okarche High School defeated Class A’s 10th-ranked Covington-Douglas 5-4.

Okarche moved to 8-5 on the season and snapped a four-game slide that included losses to Hinton (5-0), Shattuck (14-0) and Apache (16-0) in the Highway 152 Classic.

In that classic, the Warriors got two hits from Chesney Black and one each from Kayla Kremeier, Katie Parham, Callie Cramer, Belle Beam and Harper White.

Redlands linksters retain OCAC title

The team and individual titles from the Women’s Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship will remain with Redlands Community College’s golf team for a fourth straight season.

Playing at Firelake Golf Course in Shawnee, Redlands shot a 36-hole total of 601 that included a season-low effort of 296. The Cougars shot a 305 in the afternoon round to win by 48 shots over Murray State College (649). Seminole State College was third at 706.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senior Conley Knapp scored a pair of goals in just over two minutes to cap off the scoring for El Reno High School’s girls soccer team in a 5-0 shutout of Classen SAS.

El Reno moved to 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in District 5A-2 play with its third shutout of the year. The Indians are tied with Carl Albert (2-0) and Guthrie (1-0) for the league lead.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Classen SAS scored a penalty kick and added a goal in the final minute to record a 3-0 win over El Reno High School’s boys soccer team.

The loss dropped El Reno to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in the District 5A-2 standings, which moved the Indians to fifth place.

El Reno allowed one goal in the 14th minute of the first half as keeper Aldo De La Torre logged seven saves at the break and had 12 for the match.

El Reno seniors among four area cagers picked for OCA All-State

Seniors Carter Roman Nose and Tre Davis joined a long and esteemed list of El Reno High School players to earn the highest honor allocated to a senior – a spot on the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s All-State squad.

Roman Nose and Davis were named to the Large West squad for the 2025 OCA All-State Boys Basketball Games to be played July 30 at Tulsa Memorial High School.

The pair were joined by Calumet’s Kyler Thiessen and Okarche’s Hunter Mueggenborg, who were named to the Small West team. The West teams will take on squads from the East at 7 and 8:30 p.m.

Miller, EHS take second in CA battle

Dropping its team score for a second straight outing, El Reno finished second to archrival Carl Albert at the 2025 El Reno Girls Golf Invitational hosted at Crimson Creek Golf Course.

The Titans, ranked second in Class 5A in the OSSAA rankings and seventh statewide, carded a 338 to win by 15 strokes over El Reno. 

The Indians, ranked third in 5A and 18th overall, shot their best round in more than four years with a 353.

Indians kick off ’25 slate in 13th place

El Reno High School’s boys golf team now has a barometer of where it needs to go by season’s end to be in the running for a state ticket, opening up its 2025 schedule with a 13th-place effort in the Southern Oklahoma Invitational.

Playing at the Duncan Golf Club, El Reno carded a 371 to finish as the seventh best Class 5A team in the field. 

Class 3A’s Plainview won the event with a 308. Marlow (314), Velma-Alma (315), Duncan (328) and Elgin (328) rounded out the top five.

It took a few innings for El Reno High School’s baseball team to readjust from the upper echelon pitching faced from two state-ranked teams in the Chickasha Festival.

When it did, though, the Indians jumped back into District 5A-1 play with a doubleheader sweep of John Marshall by scores of 15-0 and 10-0 to remain undefeated in league play.

El Reno is now 10-2-2 on the season and moves to 8-0 in league play with its fourth twinbill sweep. The Indians remain tied with Noble, Carl Albert and Guthrie and will now face the trio over the next 21 days.
