Extending its current win streak to three games, Calumet High’s baseball team defeated Hinton 11-3 last week.
The win was the sixth out of the last seven games for the Chieftains, ranked No.16 in Class A, who improved to 13-4 on the season.
Calumet scored six runs in the first inning off three hit batsmen, two walks and a pair of singles from Kaleb Melvin. Caleb Meschberger and Hunter Navanick added a base hit each.
Redlands Community College’s Ashley Monterrosa watches her shot sail toward the goal in a recent home match with Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa. The Cougars dropped two matches last week to Seminole State (6-0) and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (4-1).
Redlands Community College’s golf team tuned up for the upcoming NJCAA Region 2 Championship by placing second in the 2021 Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.
Played at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Redlands fired a 36-hole total of 600 to finish a shot off the pace set by Oklahoma City University.
The Cougars shot rounds of 310 and 290, with the latter being the low team score of the event.
Redlands Community College’s baseball team stepped up into the Division 1 ranks of the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference last week, losing a close 5-1 game to Seminole State College.
The loss dropped the Cougars to 9-24 on the season.
Redlands went 6-of-35 (.171) from the plate in the nine-inning game, scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth as Nick Smith doubled and scored on a single from Shon Booth. Smith led the team in hitting, going 2-for-4, followed by singles from Tylor Richey, Zac Green and David Garcia.
El Reno High School’s baseball team had a two-game win streak snapped last week with a 10-2 loss at Elk City.
The Indians slipped to 12-10 on the season in the rematch loss to the Elks, splitting games for the season.
El Reno batted .263 from the plate, going 5-of-19 with one walk versus five strikeouts. Brayden Fulton had one of the five hits in the loss, adding a walk and a run scored.
Kolton Hunt (.333) singled as did Ryan Island (.500) and Boston Ellison (.333). Palmer Ellis (.500) had the lone extra base hit with a double to drive in a run.
Still looking for its first dual win of the season, El Reno High School’s tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Harding Charter Prep last week at the Legion Park courts.
El Reno slipped to 0-2 on the season.
The lone win was by the No.1 girls doubles team of Riley Connor and Kenzie Holsted, who posted a 6-0/3-6/6-1 win over Tory Nguyen and Emma Klover.
El Reno’s No.2 doubles team of Brianna Barksdale and Ida Terkildsen dropped a 6-3/6-0 match to Tracy Nguyen and Lily Boevers.
Both of the county’s ranked small school baseball teams had successful weekend action, including a runner-up finish by Union City in the Moss Pirates Invitational.
The Tigers, ranked 14th in Class A, defeated Maud (16-4) and Earlsboro (17-4) but fell to the Class B 12th-ranked Pirates 8-3 in the title game. Union City improved to 15-5 on the season.
Union City bats combined to go 25-of-63 from the plate for a .397 average with 11 extra base hits. The Tigers drew 30 walks against 22 strikeouts.
Surviving a first-half score from Capitol Hill, El Reno High School’s girls soccer team remained undefeated in District 5A-1 play last week with a 2-1 win over the Red Wolves.
El Reno, ranked third in the district, improved to 7-3 on the season and 3-0 in the 5A-1 standings. Only the Indians and Bishop McGuinness remain undefeated in league action.
The Red Wolves led El Reno 1-0 at the half after the Indians missed scoring chances off three goalie saves, two wide shots, a pair of corner kicks and a high shot on frame.
El Reno High School’s boys soccer team played an inspired match against league-leader Capitol Hill, however, an upset win was just not in the numbers.
The Red Wolves outshot El Reno 11-2 and had five more scoring chances on frame to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Indians. The loss dropped EHS to 2-8 on the season and 1-2 in the District 5A-1 standings.
El Reno had just two shots on frame in the loss, one each from Lazaro Acosta and Edgar Garcia. Acosta’s shot, off an assist by Oscar Ortiz, found the net in the 24th minute of the first half to tie the score at 1-all.
Cutting 39 strokes from its previous outing, El Reno High School’s girls golf team shot its lowest round of the season during the 2021 Suburban Conference Championship.
Playing at Trosper Park, El Reno carded a 443 effort, with three golfers shooting under 110.
Shayne Castrop birdied the fifth hole en route to a team-low round of 103, followed by three pars and a 108 from Madi Patswald. Berkley Smith posted a 111 round, while Daniella Velazquez closed with a 121, one shot better than Emma Patswald.
