Redlands Community College’s soccer team earned its first win in more than a year and a half recently, beating Murray State College 2-1.

It was the first of five matches for RCC within a nine-day period and was followed by a close 2-1 overtime setback at Eastern Oklahoma State College.

With the split, the Cougars are 1-2 on the season and in the NJCAA Region 2 standings after losing 4-1 to Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa in the season opener.

Redlands Community College’s baseball team dropped a four-game set to league-leading Western Oklahoma State College to slip to the bottom of the league standings.

The Cougars lost 13-0/16-6 at Altus, before losing the home twinbill by scores of 9-1 and 7-4.

Redlands is now 9-23 on the season and 2-10 in Division 2 of the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.

Redlands was outscored 45-11 after going 27-of-109 from the plate for a .248 team batting average.

Whether it was from the right side or the left side of the mound, El Reno High School’s pitching staff found the strike zone often in last week’s District 5A-2 series with Capitol Hill.

Four pitchers combined to strike out 24 of the 42 batters faced over the two-day series as El Reno’s baseball team posted 15-2 and 16-4 wins over the Red Wolves. The Indians improved to 12-9 on the season and 8-0 in the 5A-2 standings.

UNION CITY – Mixing in eight timely hits between 12 walks, Union City High School’s slow-pitch softball team rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat cross-county rival Calumet 12-8 last week.

The win lifted Class A’s 20th-ranked Tigers to 13-9 on the season and a rivalry sweep, while the Chieftains slipped to 3-9 for the spring.

Union City scored three runs off bases-loaded walks, with the rest plating on a team batting average of .307 as the Tigers went 8-of-26. Kaitlyn Linson batted .750 after going 3-for-44 with a double, a triple and two runs batted in.

El Reno High School’s boys and girls tennis teams both took fifth place last week at the 2021 Suburban Conference Championships hosted by Shawnee.

The boys team had only two entries as Xiven Wallin and Jacob Guerrero both finished in sixth. Wallin played No.1 singles, losing to Guthrie’s Auden Wandt (6-0/6-1) and Carl Albert’s Grayson Guild (6-2/6-0).

Guerrero played No.2 singles, losing in straight sets to both Piedmont’s Jacob Curtis and Carl Albert’s Brandon Enterling.

A small group of golfers faced large wind gusts last week as four teams took part in the 2021 El Reno High School Boys Invitational at Crimson Creek Golf Course.

El Reno was one of the four schools but did not field a full team this season. Altus won the team title with a 357 tally, followed by Guymon (377) and Weatherford (456).

The Indians did have three golfers in the individual medalist field, led by Dallon Biswell’s nines of 54-46 for a 100 total. He placed eighth overall, 10 shots out of the top five, but had a lower score than all of the Weatherford squad.

Tyler Norton scored from third on a botched pickoff move in the bottom of the seventh inning as Union City High School’s baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with an 11-10 win over Hydro-Eakly.

The Tigers, ranked 14th in Class A, improved to 13-4 on the season.

Norton singled and went to second on a relay throw from the outfield. Tyler Ross reached first on a bunt which sent Norton to third.

“They tried a pickoff and the kid overthrew third and Tyler pretty much walked home,” said Union City head coach Ludy Griggs.

With gusting winds over 30 miles per hour from the south, the game plan for last week’s District 5A-1 showdown between El Reno High School’s girls soccer team and Noble was simple – take advantage of Mother Nature’s gift.

El Reno did just that, punching in two second-half goals to defeat the Bears 2-0. The Indians, ranked third in District 5A-2, improved to 6-3 on the season and 2-0 in the league.

Noble, ranked second in the district, suffered its first loss of the year and slipped to 1-1 in league action.

El Reno High School’s boys soccer team pulled out a nail-biter last week to snap a four-match losing streak and earn its first win in District 5A-1 action.

Christian Diaz scored in the final two minutes of regulation as the Indians defeated Noble 1-0.

It was El Reno’s first goal in five matches as EHS improved to 2-7 on the season and 1-1 in district play.

The match was as close as the final score as El Reno led in shots (14-14), shots on goal (7-6) and possessions (55-45).

Robertson, who had originally signed with another NJCAA program, has since transferred to RCC and will have two years of eligibility. Robertson was a standout player for El Reno High School on the same field.
