Prescription drug prices: Politicians are all talk, no action

Body

On July 26, 2020, President Donald Trump signed an executive order under which the U.S. government’s Medicare Part D program would have negotiated lower prescription drug prices based on an “International Price Index.”

Implementation of the order was delayed pending counter-proposals from Big Pharma, but the Democratic response was swift.

“Instead of meaningfully lowering drug prices, President Trump’s executive orders would hand billions of dollars to Big Pharma,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) complained, without explaining why or how.

Letter to the Editor: SSM Healthplex emergency room signs

Body

To the Editor:

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, I had respiratory failure and could not breathe. When trying to find the correct door to enter the Emergency Room at the new SSM St. Anthony Healthplex, one would think you would go to the large red ER letters on the building. Guess what? That entrance is for ambulance drivers.

Thankfully I did not die there on the driveway.

Now, which door?

We pulled up to the Urgent Care, but that was not what we needed.

Cole: Budget has out-of-touch priorities

Body

Last week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi called members of the U.S. House of Representatives back from their August district work for an emergency session.

However, instead of considering truly pressing matters affecting the safety and security of our nation and allies, she focused debate and votes on ensuring passage of a “budget” in order to usher in $3.5 trillion in new spending on socialist-style policies and programs through the reconciliation process.

OU professor gets reality check

Body

If you were paid $218,250 for a relatively light workload compared to your peers, how would you respond?

University of Oklahoma Professor Suzette Grillot opted for insubordination and filing lawsuits filled with inflammatory allegations against her employer.

That Grillot has been demoted by the university and now rebuffed by a federal judge is a rare glimmer of sanity in Oklahoma academia.

Switch the TV away from the news, it’s worth the effort

Body

With news channels on 24/7, we can all be overwhelmed.

This is true, especially when those channels focus on one or two items, repeating the same headlines every few minutes.

The channel’s commentators all see the events in the same way. In essence, they could all seem to be talking heads, without an original thought of their own.

Too often the news media wants sensationalism, dramatizing everything, even stretching the truth or creating it without checking facts. Why let facts get in the way of a good story?

Letter to the Editor: Country’s future distressing

Body

To the Editor:

I am so frustrated over what is coming out of our country’s capital and lawmakers that I am compelled to speak out.

I would love to have the luxury of time to march or organize a sit-in, but I work. I am watching the pendulum swing the completely opposite direction in the United States with seemingly no ability to achieve middle ground or retain my rights under the Constitution.

Toyota Motor Company drifts outside its lane with political move

Body

The Toyota Motor Company is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world.

As of February 2021, the company ranked No.10 on the Forbes Global 500 with revenues of more than $240 billion.

The only other car company ranking ahead of Toyota on the Forbes list is Volkswagen, coming in at No.8. Over the previous year and despite the pandemic, the revenue and profit growth of Toyota have been 1 percent and 12.4 percent, respectively - numbers that should please any shareholder.

Biden administration drops Trump lawsuit on behalf of pro-life nurse

Body

The Biden administration has dropped a lawsuit that President Donald Trump had filed on behalf of a pro-life nurse who was forced to participate in an abortion.

The decision to quit representing the nurse, who’s conscience rights were violated, continues to underscore just how important it is to have a president who governs pro-life and the crucial setbacks for pro-life advocates when an ardent abortion activist gets into the White House.

Hader right, then wrong and where’s the lawsuit

Body

I agree with County Commissioner Marc Hader when he says motorists, after a couple of months, will grow to like a roundabout at SH 66 and Banner Road.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is deciding on three different traffic controls for the intersection. The possible roundabout is the only one that would be considered foreign to most of Oklahoma.

We know how to handle traffic signals and four-way stops. The roundabout is a different animal.

But it’s not one to be feared.
