Mary Katherine Dyer

Mary Katherine “Kay” Dyer died Monday, June 15, 2020, at the age of 92. Born in Oklahoma City June 11, 1928, Kay was the daughter of Ray and Helen Dyer. A graduate of El Reno High School, she attended the University of Kansas where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

She broke barriers for future women journalists as the first woman promoted to city editor at The Oklahoman and Times.

Decades later, she was still in touch with several younger journalists she had mentored through the years. She was known as a tough but fair editor.

Deloris Ann Smith

Body

Graveside services for Deloris Ann Smith were held Monday in the El Reno Cemetery with Pastor Garrett Miller of Victory Christian Fellowship officiating. Services were under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Deloris died June 11, 2020, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. She was born April 3, 1955, in Oklahoma City. A longtime resident of El Reno, she previously lived in Houston, Texas, where she raised her family. She was a medical technician and enjoyed watching movies.

Kimberly Gale Evans

Body

Services for Kimberly Gale Evans of El Reno were held Wednesday in the Benson Memorial Chapel with Jerred England officiating. Burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Kim died June 6, 2020, at her home. She was born Dec. 5, 1981, in Chickasha. She lived most of her life in El Reno, graduating from El Reno High School. She was a receptionist at the Canadian County Children’s Justice Center and a member of the Del City Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking, baking, grocery shopping and garage and estate sales.

Judy Snell Minyard

Judy “Sue” Snell Minyard was born Oct. 8, 1945, in Texas and passed peacefully in her sleep on June 9, 2020, at her in home in Oklahoma City.

In 1963 she married Wayne Minyard and they had 56 years together before Wayne’s death in August 2019. Sue was an avid golfer and she enjoyed fishing.

She loved her dogs dearly.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Minyard Sr.; her parents, Jim and Helen Snell; and a sister, Jimmie Snell Boyett.

Sherrill King

Body

Memorial services for Sherrill Lynn King of Yukon will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2020, at El Reno First Baptist Church with Glen Chapman officiating.

Sherrill passed away May 14, 2020. She was born Feb. 14, 1955, in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Orange High School in Orange, Calif., and earned a bachelor’s degree from Redlands Community College. She worked for the U.S. government for 25 years at the VA Hospital, then with the FAA.

Wanetta Armstrong

Body

Funeral services for Wanetta M. Armstrong of Minco were held Monday at Cogar United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Evergreen Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Wanetta passed away June 4, 2020, at her home in Minco. She was born May 25, 1928, in Minco and had lived in the Minco/Cogar community all of her life. She graduated from Binger High School in 1946.

Wanetta was a homemaker and active with the Minco Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of Cogar United Methodist Church.

Kenneth Wayne Dickerson

Body

Kenneth Wayne Dickerson, Navy veteran, attorney, retired judge and part-time farmer and rancher, passed away May 30, 2020.

Ken was born Jan. 21, 1939, and was raised on a farm north of Piedmont, the youngest of four children. Ken’s father, Floyd Dickerson passed away when Ken was 12, leaving the farm work to Ken and his brother.

Without his dad to provide guidance, many of Ken’s life decisions were made without much counsel.

Barbara McCray

Body

Barbara Clements McCray of El Reno died June 2, 2020, at her home. She was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Wellsville, N.Y.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McCray; grandsons, Anthony Clements and Nathan Ward; and parents, Vincent Leroy and Grace Edwards.

Barbara is survived by her children, Kathy and Ridge Ward of El Reno, Tom and Robin Clements of Ninnekah, Bob and Linda Clements of Muncie, Ind., Jim and Lynese Clements of El Reno and Quentin and Susie Clements of El Reno; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Zella Pekah

Body

Wake services for Zella Marie Addison Pekah will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 8, with funeral services on Tuesday at 1 p.m., both at the Pow-Wow Grounds in Concho with Rev. Waylan Upchego officiating. Burial will be in the Concho Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Zella passed away May 31, 2020, at her home in El Reno. She was born Nov. 2, 1943, in Canton.

Zella graduated from Riverside Boarding School where she studied plumbing, and then attended vocational school in Galveston, Texas, studying to be an architect.

Jannine Niedo

Body

Graveside services for Jannine Frances Niedo will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6 in the Concho Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Jannine died May 30, 2020, at Integris Canadian Valley Hospital in Yukon. She was born May 31, 1967, in Clinton and was raised in Watonga where she attended high school. 

Jannine lived most of her life in Oklahoma City where she was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
