Mary Katherine “Kay” Dyer died Monday, June 15, 2020, at the age of 92. Born in Oklahoma City June 11, 1928, Kay was the daughter of Ray and Helen Dyer. A graduate of El Reno High School, she attended the University of Kansas where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
She broke barriers for future women journalists as the first woman promoted to city editor at The Oklahoman and Times.
Decades later, she was still in touch with several younger journalists she had mentored through the years. She was known as a tough but fair editor.
