Body
Demolition of the Rock Island overpass began on Thursday as crews used heavy equipment to begin bringing the historic structure down. Construction of the overpass started in the 1940s, but was interrupted by World War II. It was fi nished well after the war ended in 1945. The overpass is being replaced by a boulevard that will feature decorative lighting and design. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has said the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2021.
