ER matmen 19th in stout Mid-America

Pushing six grapplers into the top 15 and placing 10 overall, El Reno High School’s boys wrestling team finished 19th overall out of 35 teams at the 2024 Mid-America Nationals in Enid.

El Reno scored 157 points, with 59 of those coming from Theron Davis (175) as the freshman took fourth place with a 5-1 record. Davis logged three falls and a pair of major decisions, with his fastest fall being 41 seconds over Collinsville’s Sean Ross.

Coleman Iker (215) and Nick Mitchum (heavyweight) both placed 10th with duplicate 4-4 records and combined for 41 team points.

El Reno earns five spots on District 5A-2 teams

Body

Five El Reno High School players were named to the 2024 All-District 5A-2 Football Team during recent voting by the eight schools making up the league lineup.

Representing El Reno on the senior-only squad were first-team selections Daylin Pruitt (halfback), Xavier Elledge (defensive line), Lathen Pruitt (strong safety) and Xzavier Karty (cornerback).

Keaton Dennis was named to the second team as an offensive lineman.

Union City third in B-O tourney, Warriors rally

Breanna Goad scored a team-high 16 points to lead two players in double digits as Union City High School’s girls basketball team defeated Verden in the third-place game of the 2024 Binger-Oney Invitational.

It was the second win of the season over Verden as the Tigers went 2-1 for the tourney to improve to 7-3 overall.

Union City defeated Wayne (49-43) but lost in the semifinals to Hinton (55-53).

Goad scored in double digits in all three games to close with 47 points. Morgan Brothers scored 11 in the win over Verden and had 24 points overall.

Calumet wins 10th Canton crown, Okarche rolls

Body

Calumet High School’s boys basketball team can now claim a decade of dominance on the basketball court after winning the 2024 Canton Invitational with an 83-47 decision over Lomega.

The second win of the season over the Raiders gave Calumet the Canton title for the 10th straight year, nine of those under head coach Jacob Mayfield. The Chieftains defeated Cashion’s JV (90-25) and Arnett (80-32) to reach the championship game.

Calumet, ranked second in the state in Class B, moved to 9-0 on the season and extended its regular-season win streak to 34 games.
