Union City, Calumet earn wins, Okarche battles three-game slide

Rebounding from a loss to Okarche, Union City High School’s fast-pitch softball team took two out of three games against Class A ranked opponents to protect its state ranking.

The Tigers, ranked 15th in Class A, moved to 17-8 on the season with a 6-3 win over Hydro-Eakly (9th) and a 2-1 victory over Rush Springs (19th). The loss was to top-ranked Cyril (6-1).

Chieftains yield No.1, Tigers hold spot

Despite beating two ranked Class 2A squads, Calumet High School’s baseball team was knocked out of the top spot in the latest Class B poll for the first time this season by defending champ Fort Cobb-Broxton.

Calumet defeated No.9 Oklahoma Christian Academy (7-6) and No.11 Amber Pocasset (3-2) in the Okarche/Ampo Tournament, but dropped a close 7-6 game to Class A’s No.2 Canute. The 2-1 mark left the Chieftains with a 10-7 overall record and a No.2 ranking.

Cougars drop second Region 2 match

Redlands Community College women’s soccer team slipped to 1-2 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings after a 2-0 road shutout loss to Northern Oklahoma College of Enid.

The Cougars are now 0-2 on their current five-match road slate and 1-2 in the region standings for a sixth-place tie.

Redlands was held to five shots total in the loss, one each from Danielle Cameron, Ashanti Lewis, Brianna Armendaris, Jordan Willeford and Paige Treat.

Jordan Wentworth was in net for Redlands, allowing two goals against 10 saves.

Anna Harrell

Anna Harrell passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born Feb. 8, 1937, to Lee Thomas and Cora (Bell) Snider in Leedey, Oklahoma.

Anna lived on a farm until 1947. She had many fond memories of Webb and Dewey County, Oklahoma. She lived in a dugout at Webb with no electricity or running water and only a dirt floor.

They moved from there to Elk City, where she graduated from high school in 1955.
