The full Senate voted in favor of legislation strengthening laws dealing with violence against people who work in hospitals and health-care facilities. Senate Bill 1290, the Medical Care Provider Protection Act, by Sen. Darrell Weaver, was approved last week and now moves to the House of Representatives.

Local students shine at Junior Livestock Show

The 48th Annual Canadian County Junior Livestock Show brought young people from throughout Canadian County to the fairgrounds over the weekend.

Like previous years, it was a full house in the agriculture building. Hundreds of cattle, pigs, sheep and goats were packed both inside and outside the barn. Some of these creatures will eventually enter the food market. For now, they are the pride and joy of their young handlers.
