The Okarche High School production of “And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson” has advanced to the state finals in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association one-act play competition.
Okarche qualified by placing second at the Leedey Regional Contest. Leedey won the event, with Stratford placing third.
In addition, two OHS students were named to the All-Star cast, a recognition given to the top 10 performances of the day. McKenzie Stewart and Wyatt Lovins were recognized for their performances in the Okarche drama.

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at a local restaurant, with Natalia Valenzuela calling the meeting to order.
Ann Ricketts gave the treasury report and read minutes of the last meeting, and reported that all members had paid their dues.
Visitor Donna Jung, FCS/4-H Extension Educator, presented the lesson on “How to Plan Your Own Funeral.”
It was noted the West District-South Region will hold its district meeting March 25 at First United Methodist Church in Duncan.
Lamplighters Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at a local church.
Joan Herr called the meeting to order and offered prayer, with Janice Taylor leading the flag salute. Patricia Morrison gave the devotional titled “Jesus, Lord of Our Lives.”
Members expressed appreciation to JKM for allowing their fair display on Lyme Disease to be shown in their store.
Discussion centered around Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the OHCE Constitution.

The El Reno Wranglers recently held their monthly meeting and potluck supper, with Jimmy Johnston welcoming members and Gary Sorrells leading the prayer. There were 26 members present.
Marie Hirst gave a report from the annual rodeo. It was noted that Corbyn Cooper won first place in the mutton bustin’ contest, with Lila Adams winning the coloring contest.
Fresh Anointing Church, 1300 W. Watts, will host a Trunk or Treat festival at the church for Halloween.
The event will be Saturday, Oct. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be candy and treats for kids in costume.
The Okarche production of “And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson” will compete in the Leedey regional of the OSSAA one-act play contest for the opportunity to advance to the state finals.
The play tells the story of Elizabeth Willow, a young girl growing up in a small town in Indiana. Confined to a wheelchair but having the same hopes and dreams of us all, she eventually is forced to realize prejudice of the town and its people.
