Sensory Walk earns Bannister Gold Award from Girl Scouts

Body

Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma has named its 2024 Gold Award recipients.

Emma Bannister of El Reno is one of 13 Girl Scouts recognized for her outstanding leadership and community impact achieved through a hands-on project.

Bannister’s project, Sensory Walk for Tots, provides children with opportunities to connect learning with nature.

Bannister, a former member of Troop 493, identified a need, created a solution and came up with a plan.

Lamplighters OHCE gather at Mount Zion

Body

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church, with Carol Stine calling the meeting to order. Patricia Morrison offered a devotional titled “In His Time.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the previous meeting, with Morrison giving the treasury report.

Donna Wehmuller was birthday honoree.

Janice Taylor gave the leader lesson on “Alpha-Gal Syndrome.”

Stine reported on the executive meeting she and Taylor attended.  

OHCE Week will begin May 6, with Spring Fling set for May 7 in Mustang.

ER Wranglers make plans for parade, August rodeo

The El Reno Wranglers met recently for their April meeting at the 4-H building. Jimmy Johnston opened with leading of the Pledge of Allegiance, with Gary Sorrells offering prayer.

The club held an open playday March 23 that had a great turnout and another playday will be scheduled soon.

Members discussed riding in the Chickasha parade June 22. Planning is under way for the annual rodeo set for Aug. 2 and 3.

Next regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 2 at the 4-H building.

El Reno’s Ray to compete in National Quiz Tournaments Individual Championship

An El Reno High School student will compete this weekend in a national academic tournament

The top single player competition for quiz bowl, National Academic Quiz Tournaments Individual Player National Championship Tournament will be held this Sunday, April 7, in Rosemont, Ill.

EHS’ Riley Ray will compete in a 260-player field. Thirty-two states, the District of Columbia and South Korea will be represented in the sixth championship of its kind.

Maple School basketball player Tannah Ferguson was named to the 2024 Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools All-State Tournament Team.

Maple’s seventh- and eighth-grade team made the ORES state tournament in Division III.

Underwood OHCE holds meeting

Body

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Club met recently at a local restaurant for its March meeting. Delpha Miklautsch served as hostess and lesson leader. Others present were Bernita Davis, Vicki Duncan, Janan Fletcher and Ann Ricketts.

Miklautsch gave the lesson on “Is Your Glove Box Ready For An Emergency?”
