Cedric Mills is stepping down from the position as co-director at the Gary E. Miller Canadian County Children’s Justice Center.

Mills told county commissioners last week he is leaving effective March 31.

“I have come to a point that I am going to resign from my position at the Children’s Justice Center,” Mills said at the weekly commissioners meeting.

“I don’t take that lightly because a lot had to go into that decision.

American Legion members were recently presented with certificates for 50 continuous years of membership during the El Reno American Legion Post 34 monthly board meeting.

Those honored are John Higdon, George Lerch, Joe Shumate, Eugene McClure and First Vice Commander Cliff Cagle.

The Canadian County Sheriff's Office, along with SOSA (Safe from Online Sex Abuse), conducted a three-day undercover Internet predator operation.

The sting, in February, resulted in three arrests of adult males who were allegedly trying to meet children from Canadian County for sex.

Arrested on complaints were Kamryn Meyer, 24, of Oklahoma City, Eric Groff, 37, of Oklahoma City and Kevin Davis, 25, of Wyandotte.

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office will host classes designed to help civilians know what to do in the case of an active shooter. The classes are open for the public and will begin in April. Sheriff Chris West said the classes will be held every other month throughout the calendar year.

The first of the four classes is scheduled for Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Canadian County Sheriff’s Annex, 201 N. Rock Island.

OKLAHOMA CITY — In northwest Oklahoma, a cave-in has gone unfixed for at least five years.

In eastern Oklahoma, officials had to close a state park when the nearly 100-year-old water treatment plant failed, leaving visitors with no safe drinking water.

When the temporary pump arrived, a staff member had to go out to the site every four hours until the replacement pump came in.

In southern Oklahoma, cabins that could be generating revenue sit empty.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives has approved legislation reducing government overreach into health-care markets by repealing the Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency Facility Certificate of Need Act.

The author of House Bill 2330, Rep. Jeff Boatman, R-Tulsa, said the measure aims to eliminate unnecessary government interference in the health-care sector, specifically in the establishment of psychiatric and chemical dependency facilities.

GIRL – Bailey and Paige Denny of El Reno are parents of a girl, McCoy Layne Denny, born March 10 at Mercy Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 12.5 ounces and measured 20 inches in length.

McCoy has a brother, Brand Denny.

Maternal grandparents are Jeff and Mindy Hesser of Kingfisher. Great-grandparents are Jack and Billie Hesser and the late Gloria Hesser, the late Carl Hiner and the late Carol Hiner, all of Stillwater.

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church. Carol Stine called the meeting to order, while Donna Wehmuller offered a devotional from Mornings with Jesus.
