El Reno lands two 5A-1 superlative awards

For a team that was considered to be in a rebuilding phase, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team turned out to be a force to be taken seriously during District 5A-1 play.

The Indians went 9-5 in league play for fourth place, but three of those five losses were against Class 5A state semifinalists Carl Albert and Crossings Christian.

Those five losses were by a combined 51 points, with three of those games being single-digit setbacks.

Crimson Creek tees up deal with Men’s Golf Association

Crimson Creek Golf Course should see more young faces teeing off in the coming months after the city of El Reno and the Men’s Golf Association announced a partnership.

City Manager Matt Sandidge told members of the city council at the March meeting that staff and MGA representatives have been hashing out a “use agreement” over the past several months.

Robbie Irion was at the meeting representing the MGA.

Sandidge said the MGA has operated at Crimson Creek without an agreement for years.

Major work on the underground waterline near the intersection of Rock Island Avenue and Wade Street was completed Wednesday before overnight rains rolled through El Reno.

According to data from the National Weather Service, the city received around four-tenths of an inch of rain.

Spring 2027 opening projected for new courthouse

Body

A new four-story Canadian County Courthouse is projected to open in spring 2027.

An estimated one-year design phase will start soon before a two-year construction process.

“You’re about three years out,” construction manager Stan Lingo told county commissioners at their regular meeting last week.

Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve option 5 for the new Canadian County Courthouse master plan.

Filing for state, county offices opens April 3

Statewide election activity officially begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, when the candidate filing period opens.

Allen Arnold, secretary of the Canadian County Election Board, said candidates for state offices will file with the secretary of the state election board in Oklahoma City. Candidates for county offices file with the secretary of the county election board in El Reno.

Arnold said the following county offices are expected to be filled this year:

Residents oppose amphitheater plan

Some residents living near a proposed amphitheater in eastern Canadian County are making their opposition to the project known.

As more information continues coming out about plans for the project planned near Sara Road and SW 15th Street, a group calling itself the Mustang Creek Family Fund took to the streets in opposition and voiced their concerns.

James King, one of the members of the group shared the concerns.

“A lot of the concerns that I have are enforcement of the curfew of when they’ll end shows, as well as the sound levels,” King said.
