El Reno, Calumet grads play in All-State baseball, hoops

Though the basketball and baseball portions were played on the eastern side of the state, both El Reno and Calumet high schools were represented in the 2024 Oklahoma Native All-State Games.

Calumet had two players on the rosters as Dalton Belcher played in his second All-Star basketball game and his third elite contest of the summer.

He was on the White team which defeated the Blue squad 97-82.

Belcher was 1-of-3 from the 3-point arc for his only points of the game. He added five rebounds and four assists.

RCC freezes tuition for seventh year, expands adult scholarships

For the seventh consecutive year, Redlands Community College will hold the line against raising tuition rates.

RCC leaders said the move was aimed at a continuing effort to support students and families facing ongoing economic challenges. The Redlands Regents voted to approve the administration’s recommendation to keep tuition rates and mandatory fees unchanged for the upcoming academic year, marking the seventh consecutive year without an increase.

After hundreds of different cars raced down the wooden track, three owners were crowned winners of the 2024 A Small Town Weekend Hot Wheels Races.

The event is sponsored by the El Reno Fire Department, which uses funds collected to support its fire prevention efforts throughout the year.

County jury convicts man in sex assault that happened in 2022

Body

A Canadian County jury convicted Benjamin James Shook of attempted rape in the first degree, sexual battery, domestic abuse by strangulation, kidnapping and two counts of forcible sodomy.

The court action occurred last week. The jury consisted of seven men and five women.

The incident Shook was convicted of took place at the Fieldstone Garden Apartments in Mustang on Aug. 3, 2022.

The jury heard testimony from the victim about the defendant’s brutal attack. She told jurors the defendant held her at gunpoint during the three-hour assault.
