Woman charged in death on El Reno street

An Oklahoma City woman is in the Canadian County Jail accused of driving drunk and killing a man on an El Reno public street.

Brooke Alexis Mills, 36, was charged June 6 in Canadian County District Court with second-degree murder and/or, in the alternative, first-degree manslaughter and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

This criminal case stems from Mills’ arrest by El Reno police June 1 in the 1600 block of Eighty Niner Terrace west of Country Club Road.

Expo Authority trustees sworn, elect officers

Five trustees of Canadian County’s new Title 60 public trust swore an oath of office and elected officers at their first meeting.

The Canadian County Expo Authority was established to oversee the operation, management and maintenance of the county’s $20 million Expo and Event Center venue at 3001 Jensen Road East.

The authority’s trust indenture and board members were approved recently by the Canadian County commissioners.

Local Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts retired flags Friday, June 14.

Representatives from VFW Post 382 and American Legion Post 34 were present for the ceremony, said Cody Huber, Adjutant Post 34.

Several members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 382 recently attended the 99th Department of Oklahoma State Convention in Claremore.

Lamplighters gather for meeting

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church. 

Carol Stine opened the meeting, with Jan Maddox reading a devotional titled “Fear.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the previous meeting, while Patricia Morrison gave the treasury report.

Stine gave a report on the executive meeting she had attended.   

Donations will be made to 4-H Round-Up in July and the 4-H Achievement Banquet.

Donna Wehmuller presented the leader lesson on “Savory Pies.”
