Sending 21 batters to the plate over the final two innings, El Reno High School’s baseball team used a hybrid roster to rally past Chickasha 15-7 in the summer version of the U.S. 81 Series.

El Reno scored a run in the bottom of the first as Mason Fulton tripled before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Hernan Blanco.

Chickasha answered with five runs in the top of the second off four hits and two errors by the Indians defense. Four of those runs by the Chicks came with two outs.

Calumet remains unbeaten in RDL

Nine pitchers allowed just five hits as Calumet High School’s summer baseball team remains undefeated in Red Dirt League action with wins over Perkins-Tryon and Heritage Hall.

The Chieftains defeated Perkins-Tryon 16-3 and backed that up with a 9-2 win over the Chargers to improve to 5-0 in the RDL standings. Calumet moved to 8-1-1 on the summer season with the sweep.

From the plate, Calumet went 29-of-61 (.475) with eight extra base hits. Brett Reed logged two doubles, followed by one each from Konnor and Kyler Thiessen and Riley Whitebead.

Preservation ER hands out Citations of Merit

Preservation El Reno recently brought back its Citations of Merit for property owners dedicated to preserving and/or restoring historic buildings in El Reno.

Preservation El Reno hopes that by issuing the Citations of Merit, property owners will know that their efforts in preservation and restoration are seen and valued.

Recent Citation recipients include Randy and Terri Hurst, Darron and Rebecca Crain, Beau Brummel Barber Shop and El Reno Carnegie Library.

City leaders attend Route 66 kickoff

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission unveiled the official logo for the Route 66 Centennial celebrations at a kickoff event last week at the Oklahoma State Capitol.

The inaugural event marks the start of festivities leading up to Route 66’s 100th anniversary in 2026. Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, chair of the commission, highlighted Oklahoma’s pivotal role in the centennial celebrations.

Yukon couple killed in U.S. 81 accident

Body

A Yukon man and woman were killed Friday night when the 2007 Nissan Armada they were in collided with a 2019 Kenworth semi, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

The accident occurred about 10 p.m. on U.S. 81 at 192nd Street about seven and a half miles north of El Reno.

Killed in the collision were Javier Ocampo-Ojeda, 61, and Reyna Pallares Reyes, 65.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Pafford EMS.

The OHP said the semi was traveling north on 81 when the Nissan, traveling west on 192nd Street, apparently pulled onto 81 in the path of the semi.
