Catholic Daughters of America Salve Regina hold event

Catholic Daughters of America Court Salve Regina #847 held their April meeting recently in the parish hall with Regent Karen Huber calling the meeting to order.

Roll call found four officers present, three members and two guests, District Deputy Marcie Shiel and Rosie Church. The meeting began with the Memorare and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Minutes of the March meeting were approved as well as the treasury report.

A motion was made by Kathy Hauenstein and seconded by Beverly Reichert to sponsor EHS student Hattie Eaton for Girls State.

Underwood OCHE members discuss upcoming events

The Underwood chapter of Oklahoma Community Home and Education met recently at a local restaurant with Bernita Davis serving as hostess.

She presented the lesson on Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, which is associated with Earth Day on April 22. Ideas were presented on how to reuse and repurpose old blue jeans into purses, Christmas stockings, quilts, pumpkins, door hangers and many other items.

Davis read minutes from the last meeting, with the treasurer’s report given by Janan Fletcher.

Lamplighters group gathers at Mt. Zion Church for meeting

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Members welcomed guest Donna Wehmuller.

Carol Stine called the meeting to order and led in the flag salute. Jan Maddox presented the devotional titled “Leap for Joy.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the previous meeting, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report.

Gardeners, don’t be fooled by magic beans

While Jack may have gotten lucky with the magic beanstalk beans he received when he traded his cow, gardeners may not be so lucky when purchasing seeds for their gardens. Casey Hentges, host of Oklahoma State University Agriculture’s television program “Oklahoma Gardening,” has a word of caution for gardeners purchasing seeds this growing season.

ER couple celebrates 50 years

Bobby and Sharon Roberts of El Reno are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Bobby Roberts and Sharon Miles were married April 13, 1973, in Gainesville, Texas.

They have three children, Doug and Sharon Tabb of Oklahoma City, Greg and Erika Roberts of Sayre and Shannon and Nick Niles of El Reno, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The anniversary was commemorated with a family dinner and a trip to Tennessee.
