Three home runs propelled Calumet High School’s slow-pitch softball team to its first win of the season, a 10-0 shutout of Olustee-El Dorado in the Fletcher Spring Swing Invitational.

Calumet moved into the playoffs with a 1-17 record after posting a 1-3 mark in the Fletcher tourney.

The Chieftains dropped games to Class 2A’s 13th-ranked Canute (17-0), Class 6A’s 20th-ranked Elgin (14-4) and the 15th-ranked (2A) host team by a 10-3 score.

The Chieftains were slated to play in the District 2A-1 Championship at Binger-Oney.

Calumet High School’s baseball team entered the Class A playoffs riding a seven-game win streak after closing out the regular season with an 11-1 non-tournament win over Binger-Oney.

The Chieftains, ranked 17th in the state with a 17-3 record, were hosts of the District 19 Championship.

Calumet’s win streak included the championship from the 2022 Johnny Bench Invitational after beating Class B’s seventh-ranked Leedy (8-2), Cheyenne/Reydon (7-2), Binger-Oney (14-2) and Tuttle’s junior varsity 5-3 in the title game.

Redlands Community College’s baseball team swept the home portion of its series with Northern Oklahoma College of Enid to remain at eighth place in the NJCAA Region 2, Division 2 standings.

The Cougars are 8-16 in the division after beating the Jets 2-1 and 5-4 at Don Brown Field. Redlands, 19-29 overall, dropped both road games by scores of 5-2 and 5-4.

Redlands was 30-of-115 (.261) from the plate over the four-game set, getting a double each from Nico Kuplik, Noah Edmond, Parker Ward and Reece Burke. Burke added a home run to the mix of extra base hits.

Dominating the overall shot total by 28 attempts, El Reno High School’s girls soccer team climbed into sole possession of third place in the District 5A-2 standings with an 8-0 shutout of Guthrie.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Indians, who improved to 9-2 overall. El Reno moved to 4-3 in the district standings, one game back of Piedmont for second with a match left to play at Guymon.

El Reno logged 33 shots in the win over Guthrie, 17 of those on goal, while the defense allowed five attempts.

None of the Bluejays shots got past EHS goalie Kinley Golden.

Shutting out Guthrie over the final 30 minutes of the second half, El Reno High School’s boys soccer team remains in the hunt for a playoff spot with a 2-1 win over the Bluejays.

With its third win in a row, El Reno jumped up to sole possession of fourth in the District 5A-1 standings at 3-3. The Indians, now 4-7 on the season, hold a half game lead in the league win column over Bishop McGuinness.

After tagging Kingfisher for a double-digit hit total in the opening game of the 2022 Guthrie 89’er Invitational, the wins and the base knocks seemed to dry up for El Reno High School’s baseball team.

El Reno slipped to 13-15 on the season with a 1-3 showing in the event.

Playing out of the Kingfisher bracket, the Indians defeated the Yellowjackets 7-1 but would follow it up with losses to the Oklahoma City Broncos (6-3), Midwest City (8-0) and Class 2A’s eighth-ranked Morrison (11-2).

While three of its four entries in the 2022 Guthrie Invitational found match success, El Reno High School’s girls tennis team missed out on placing any of those players in the top 10.

El Reno’s No.2 doubles team of Bri Barksdale and Mary Almanza were the highest placers at 13th with a 2-2 record.

The Indians No.1 doubles team of sisters Melanna and Allynda Idell were 15th with a 1-3 record, defeating a second entry from Christian Heritage Academy 6-2/6-0. The pair lost to Ardmore (0-6/0-6), CHA’s top squad (3-6/3-6) and Oklahoma Bible Academy (3-6/1-6).

Fueled by senior Shayne Castrop’s second straight sub-100 round, El Reno High School’s girls golf team placed in the top 10 at the 2022 Del City Invitational.

Castrop shot a round of 96 to lead El Reno’s 425 team total. Emma Patswald carded a 105, followed by a pair of 107s from Madison Patswald and Kallie Maifield.

Berkley Kidd-Smith rounded out the team scoring with a 109. Skylar Ayers, playing as an individual medalist, shot a 102.

OKLAHOMA CITY – After a lackluster first inning, El Reno High School’s baseball team scored 36 unanswered runs to sweep a District 5A-1 doubleheader against Southeast.

El Reno’s 24-3 and 15-0 victories over the Spartans lifted EHS to 12-13 on the season. The Indians are 5-4 and fifth in the district standings, but trail Bishop McGuinness by a game in the loss column for fourth and hold the tiebreaker over the Irish.

Caroline Huber has made only one stop in goal over the past nine years of her soccer career, but it was a season-saver for El Reno High School’s girls soccer team.

Moving from the field into the goal for a shootout, Huber made a diving save on Carl Albert’s fourth attempt to help preserve the Indians 4-2 victory in the penalty kick battle.

“I had not played goalie for nine years and I was terrified but I was also excited. This was a win we needed and I was glad I got that block,” said Huber.
